Despite a strong focus on skincare, many young people are being misguided by social media and peers when it comes to sun protection. A recent survey by the American Academy of Dermatology found that over half of Gen Z adults are unaware of sunburn risks, with 25% already reporting sun damage. Alarmingly, 37% of Gen Z use sunscreen only when reminded by others, and 28% prioritize getting a tan over preventing skin cancer. "This generation is incredibly focused on beauty with a significant fear of aging. Tanned skin seems to have visual appeal and projects the image of good times, but what people don't realize is that tan skin is a sign your skin has been injured. Whether exposed to the sun's UV rays or using an indoor tanning salon, every time you tan, your skin is damaged, speeding up aging and increasing the risk for all types of skin cancer, including melanoma." Instead of living for today, let's approach sun protection as an investment in our future health. The more we shield our skin when we’re young, the better protected we’ll be against skin cancer, and against the wrinkles and spots that come from sun exposure later in life. Our valued advisor Dr. Norbert Kiss MD, PhD gave a presentation at European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology Spring Symposium 2024 in Malta this week on high-frequency ultrasound (HFUS) technologies. In the study presented by him, our dermoscopy-guided high-frequency ultrasound (DG-HFUS) solution demonstrated a superior performance in estimating Breslow thickness (sensitivity of 91.8%, specificity of 96.0% and an almost perfect agreement).
