Marcia Ellis

I am a partner, Global Co-Chair of the Private Equity Group and a member of the Board of Directors, global ESG Steering Committee and Finance Committee at Morrison Foerster. My practice focuses on private equity transactions and complex mergers and acquisitions. I have significant experience advising investors with respect to investments in high tech sectors including semiconductors, robotics and artificial intelligence and am recognized as a leading TMT lawyer.

I am currently advising Ascendent Capital Partners on its US$1.66 billion take private of Hollysys Automation Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: HOLI). I also advise SoftBank Group Corp and Arm Holdings PLC in relation to Arm China, the entity through which certain Arm semiconductor products are licensed to Chinese licensees. In the past three years, I have advised clients on deals with a total aggregate value of over US$265 billion.

Under my leadership, Morrison Foerster’s Private Equity Practice was selected as a 2021 Practice Group of the Year by Law360, and I was named to Law360’s 2022 and 2023 Private Equity Editorial Board. In 2023, I was awarded the Financial Times Asia Pacific Innovative Practitioner award.

I have spearheaded the launch of a diversity internship program in MoFo's Hong Kong office focused on ethnic minority Hong Kongers who are studying law at Hong Kong universities. I have also initiated a mentorship program and an interview workshop program for women undergraduates as part of my work as co-chair of the Women of Influence Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce.
