Net inflow estimate year-to-date is $37.16bn, 5.8% lower than MPF’s 5 year historical year-to-date average of $39.45bn. MPF Ratings released Q1 2024 MPF Asset Class Fund Flow Summary by highlighting that US equities received over $9bn of MPF’s net inflows in Q1 2024, by far the largest quarterly MPF net inflows into US equities ever recorded, and a concerning trend which Mr Chung attributes to a confluence of new fund launches, disappointing local equity results and MPF members trying to capitalize on the strong momentum of the US market. Cross-boundary WMC Fund Flow in the Greater Bay Area Exceeds 15 billion Yuan Guangdong's banking industry held its 2024 first-quarter press conference on April 22, announcing support for financial interconnection in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the "Cross-boundary Wealth Management Connect Scheme"(“Cross-boundary WMC”).   Currently, 32 Chinese mainland banks are part of the pilot program, covering all cities in the Greater Bay Area. A total of 73,400 investors have participated, with a total cross-border fund flow of 15.283 billion yuan and an outstanding balance of investment products worth 5.839 billion yuan. Liu Yunhai, a member of the Party Committee of the Guangdong Bureau of the National Financial Regulatory Administration of China, announced that the bureau is deepening financial connectivity to support the development of the Greater Bay Area as an international financial hub. This includes advancing the pilot upgrade of the Cross-boundary WMC. Recently, a revised version of the "Implementation Rules for the Greater Bay Area's Cross-Boundary Wealth Management Connect Business Pilot Program" was released after it had been launched in 2021. This revision optimizes participating institutions, eligible investment products, and investor admission requirements. This upgrade is expected to further drive the expansion of the business. The “Cross-boundary WMC” is divided into "Northbound Connect" and "Southbound Connect." "Northbound Connect" allows Hong Kong and Macau investors to open accounts with mainland sales institutions and invest through a closed-loop fund pipeline. "Southbound Connect" enables mainland investors to open accounts with sales institutions in Hong Kong and Macau and invest through a closed-loop pipeline in Hong Kong and Macau products.
