🥇𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝟏𝟏𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐚 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧🏆 We are thrilled to announce that Team Leader Kang Hui, representing the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, has secured the gold award at the 11th China Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. This event was hosted by multiple departments including the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Ministry of Commerce, with the support of his supervisor, Prof. Wong Kwok-yin, Vice President (Education) and Chair Professor of Chemical Technology, and Dr. Lo Tsz-woon, Benedict, Associate Professor. The team is currently developing a new type of nanomaterial with superior performance characteristics, including high electrical conductivity, high efficiency, and a long lifespan. In terms of potential application areas, the team is focusing on developing a diversified and multi-tiered product layout to meet the diverse needs of customers. 🌟 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐇𝐮𝐢𝐳𝐡𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐔-𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐲 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐞 🌟 The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) recently held an unveiling ceremony for the PolyU-Daya Bay Technology and Innovation Research Institute in Huizhou, in collaboration with the Huizhou Municipal People’s Government and the Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone. 🎉 The Research Institute will focus on four key areas: 1. New Materials and New Energy 2. Green Chemistry and Sustainable Catalysis 3. Spatial Computing and Imaging 4. Green and Smart Manufacturing During the opening speech, Dr. Lam Tai-fai, Council Chairman of PolyU, stated that the Research Institute will develop local industries by optimizing resource allocation and promoting the industrialization of research outcomes, contributing to the high-quality development of Hong Kong, Huizhou, and the nation as a whole. Prof. Teng Jin-Guang, President of PolyU, emphasized that while PolyU excels in teaching and research, it prioritizes global environmental protection and sustainable development. The Research Institute aims to develop green energy and technologies, promoting modernization and digitalization. This collaboration with the Huizhou government and the Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone will integrate government, industry, and academia, serving as a vital platform for green energy and technological innovation between Hong Kong and Huizhou. Prof. Zheng Zijian, Director of the Research Institute, Associate Director of the Research Institute for Intelligent Wearable Systems, and Chair Professor of Soft Materials and Devices at PolyU, introduced the Research Institute’s overall development plans and his research on new materials and new energy. Prof. Yung Ka-fu, Associate Director of the Research Institute, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Director of the University Research Facility in Chemical and Environmental Analysis at PolyU, spoke on green chemistry and sustainable catalysis. 𝐌𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐠'𝐬 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐮𝐠𝐬🌟 A research team led by Dr. Ma Cong, Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology and the co-founder of a PolyU startup YnnoMed Limited, is on the verge of a breakthrough in developing new drugs to combat superbugs. They've identified 1,000 bioactive molecules with the potential to develop new antibiotics, winning numerous awards for their exceptional work. In lab and animal trials, they've pinpointed five chemical components that effectively combat all known superbugs. Clinical trials in China start in 2026, with plans to expand research collaborations to the US. Before launching in Hong Kong, the new drug must be registered in select countries including the US and China.
