[When you see "high risk, there is a hidden danger", be alert!] Under the mechanism of the “Suspicious Proxy ID Alert”, if a payee's account/FPS proxy ID (including mobile phone number, email address and FPS ID) has been reported to the Hong Kong Police Force for past scams, it will be labelled as "high risk" by the “Scameter” scam prevention system. You will receive a warning before you confirm the transaction. Remember, before using the FPS proxy ID for payments, verify the payment details and the identity of the payee meticulously, and ensure that your Octopus App is updated with the latest version featuring the “FPS Suspicious Proxy ID Alert” function. 🌍Together with Drink Without Waste, Octopus is rolling out instant rewards for participants in the “Community Plastic Beverage Bottle Recycling Programme”, to incentivise recycling and make Hong Kong a smarter and more sustainable city. Through Octopus’ e-payments solutions, participants get paid directly, leading to more transparency, traceability and security. Since the launch of the programme in March 2024, over 1.1 million used plastic beverage bottles (~28,000KG) have been collected with rebates paid through Octopus. [Screen mirroring, capturing and recording functions are prohibited. Account security comes first!] Recently, scammers have used a variety of ploys to trick Android users into installing malicious mobile apps. They then use the device’s screen capturing and recording functions to steal users’ login information for various online accounts! The Android system allows users to download third-party applications in APK file format, thereby installing apps that have not been reviewed by Google Play and have not been approved for listing. These apps may contain harmful information and are also more susceptible to malware being added by hackers. They may even be fake apps that contain malware themselves! To protect account security, we have disabled screen mirroring, capturing and recording functions in the Android version of the Octopus App for all steps that involve entering or displaying sensitive customer information, login details or payment information! Octopus expands taxi acceptance, welcoming Weixin/WeChat Pay to its network Starting today, WeChat Pay users can scan and pay for their taxi rides with tens of thousands of drivers currently accepting Octopus payments. This expansion follows our initiative earlier in January to open our payments network in Hong Kong taxis to other QR payment platforms, namely UnionPay International, AlipayHK, and Alipay.   As an international financial hub and travel destination, more digital payment options in taxis will enhance the overall travel experience and impression of the city. Our colleagues are, again, on the ground, helping to educate taxi drivers to make digitalisation of taxi fleets that much easier. [Be alert! There are endless scammers out there!] "Phishing" refers to scammers using text messages, emails, QR codes or other links to deceive people into revealing sensitive information or installing malware such as ransomware. They pretend to be legitimate institutions, and send you emails or text messages attempting to trick you into clicking on the embedded link, which will direct you to a fake website that looks very similar to the real website of the relevant organisation. After you’ve entered your personal data, such as account login credentials, credit card number or your personal information on the fake website, the scammers will then log in to your real account to steal money or make fraudulent purchases. They may also embed malicious links or file attachments in messages or emails. Once you click on or open them, they can take control of your device and steal your sensitive information. Remember! We will never ask for your personal information, password or credit card information through embedded links in emails or text messages. Stay vigilant!
