“Often the most difficult step when it comes to writing is starting the process. Something that I experienced first-hand as a graduate student when I was tasked with writing numerous grants, papers, and reports,” said Petrina Kamya, Ph.D. “We developed Science42: #DORA to help eliminate that debilitating barrier to writing #scientificdocuments.” Insilico’s developers collaborated with researchers at the University of Copenhagen to submit a paper on #medRxiv. The paper drafted by DORA and later manually curated and extended, performs a comparative study about radiotherapy outcomes across brain tumor types, namely glioblastoma multiform and low-grade gliomas based on radiotherapy phenotype and expression data from 32 #cancerdatasets. Longevity: Anti-aging drugs, watch out, here we come… In October 2023, researchers from the University of Oslo and, the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine published an article in the journal Aging Cell, where they used Insilico Medicine’s PandaOmics (see above) to identify 22 dual-purpose target candidates for anti-ageing and anti-cancer treatment. One candidate, histone demethylase KDM1A, has since been shown to significantly extend lifespan in an ageing research animal model and has anti-cancer activities in clinical studies in colorectal and triple-negative breast cancer. Insilico Medicine made the news this year as well with a publication around its leading pipeline candidate INS018_055, a #small-molecule inhibitor of the novel antifibrotic target TRAF2- and NCK-interacting kinase (TNIK), which was also identified using the company’s end-to-end platform2. The compound is currently in a #phase2 trial for idiopathic pulmonary #fibrosis—an indication for which new #therapies are greatly needed and that has historically seen many failures in drug development. While AI-designed antibodies are yet to reach the clinic, the outcomes from trials for small molecules such as INS018_055 that are now in progress will be closely watched to understand whether #AI is able to accelerate not just the discovery of drug candidates, but also the identification of those that are capable of succeeding in the clinic where others have not in the past.
