The International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Officer to lead our efforts in strengthening the capacity of our affiliate organizations (domestic workers’ organizations and trade unions) in the Africa region. The Africa region is one of IDWF’s seven global regions with 28 affiliates in 28 countries across Central and West Africa. This pivotal role will be instrumental in advancing labor rights and securing decent work for the millions of domestic workers in the region. ‼️ Urgent call for support for Migrant Domestic Workers in Lebanon! 🇱🇧 ⚠️ At least 1,540 people killed, 5,410 people wounded, and over 200,000 people displaced internally in the recent escalation of violence in #Lebanon. Migrant #DomesticWorkers are left in precarious circumstances and are excluded from any support. Many of them have been abandoned by their employers or even forced to stay behind in South Lebanon under constant life-threatening shelling. 🚨🚨They need food, healthcare, clothing, shelter, and other forms of humanitarian aid. A coalition made up of trusted organizations and activists is gathering funds to provide this emergency relief. “From the moment that a human being comes to this life, we need care. And the moment that we die, we need care. From womb to tomb." Care can affirm or scatter, assuage or undermine both care workers and care recipients worldwide. The global care economy is underwritten by exploitation on both sides of the equation. Care support is inaccessible and unaffordable for too many recipients, and care work is violent and unsustainable for too many workers. This Ford Foundation blog spotlights how the National Domestic Workers Alliance and International Domestic Workers Federation are building the power and leadership of domestic workers the world over, pioneers who are shaping a more just care economy. I'm inspired by the insights and advocacy of June Barrett and Adriana Paz Ramírez who are profiled in this piece, along with Ford colleagues Ghada Abdel Tawab and Livia Y.
