Successful CEOs take decisions that are often make or break for the company—and their own career. That was the case for EQT Group’s CEO Christian Sinding as he steered the private equity firm through a significant acquisition in Asia—and then positioned the expanded company as a world leader. As part of a new series of video interviews, BCG’s CEO Christoph Schweizer talks to fellow leaders about their learnings from such pivotal moments. Our fourth annual survey on carbon emissions found that the overall pace of decarbonization has slowed—but that leaders are realizing significant financial value. In fact, a leading source of financial benefits was a reduction in operating costs; more than half of the companies surveyed reported that they believe their emissions can be reduced by 10% to 40% at a net cost savings. Climate mobility—people forcibly or voluntarily seeking safer environments, clean water, or refuge—is a consequence of severe weather patterns associated with climate change. From severe floods to droughts, climate change-related factors are reshaping continents. BCG's latest report, co-authored with the Cambridge Centre for Social Innovation, introduces three areas of action that may reduce climate mobility. 1. Boost water resilience with nature-based solutions. 2. Build social resilience through equitable policies and community involvement. 3. Foster collaboration between academics, practitioners, and communities Climate mobility is a complex challenge, but it is possible to mitigate the causes and impacts with cooperation. What do direct air capture, clean hydrogen, and sustainable aviation fuel have in common? They share many of the same challenges to scale growth, including technical hurdles, offtake issues, market complexities, and policy constraints. These emerging climate technologies can learn from the early innovations adopted when scaling sectors such as wind, solar, and liquefied natural gas, including: 1. Standardization and modularization to solve technical issues 2. Government and third-party R&D support 3. Tolling agreements to reduce market risks 4. Consistent government incentives and regulations Scaling green tech also requires cooperation between private industry, early-stage entrepreneurs, financial institutions, and policymakers to apply these strategies and accelerate commercialization. We were honored to host the 68th U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry for the Energy Transition Accelerator event, bringing together climate leaders, countries, and companies working on a cutting-edge platform aimed at progressing the transition to clean power in developing countries. This initiative marks a key step towards meeting our global climate commitments. BCG has supported the Energy Transition Accelerator since its inception. It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm and interest of all participants. The discussions, co-hosted by Rich Lesser, BCG’s Global Chair, highlighted both the challenges and opportunities we face as we continue this vital work. Follow along as we drive these important conversations forward! #BCGatUNGA24 #BCGatClimateWeek24

BCG’s session at the UN SDG Media Zone emphasized the critical need for collective action and investment to address the growing costs of climate inaction. The perceived costs of climate mitigation and adaptation delay progress in the fight against climate change. But what is the true cost of inaction? At the current investment rate, the world is on track for a temperature increase exceeding 3°C—resulting in a projected loss of 16% to 22% of cumulative global GDP. However, by committing less than 2% of GDP to additional climate mitigation efforts, we can limit warming to below 2°C and reduce economic losses to an estimated 11% to 13%. The choice is clear: act now, and we can free up 10% to 15% of global GDP by 2100. The time to invest in our future is now. Read more: https://on.bcg.com/4edXUX9 #BCGatUNGA24 #BCGatClimateWeek24
