Charulata (Bengali: চারুলতা, romanized: Cārulatā, lit. 'The Lonely Wife') ek 1964 ke bharatiya natak film hae jo Satyajit Ray dwara likha aur nirdeshit ki gayi thi. Rabindranath Tagore ke upanyas Nastanirh par adharit is film me Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhabi Mukherjee aur Sailen Mukherjee ne kaam kiya hae.[1] Yeh film Ray ki sabse shresht rachnaon me se ek mana jata hae.

Pehli aur antim scene dono ko mahatvapurn samjha gaya hae. Umapada patrika aur chhapakal ko chalane me madad karta hae. Manda, apni moorkh aur asahaj vyavahar se, Charulata ke prati sahaj aur buddhijivi Charulata ke liye koi saathi nahi hae.

Amal (Soumitra Chatterjee), Bhupati ka chhota bhateeja, aata hae milne. Bhupati use Charu ke sanskritik rujhanon ko badhava dene ke liye kehta hae. Amal jawan aur handsome hae, aur vah Charu ke samaan umr ke logon me hae. Uske sahityik abhilaashaaye hae aur uske kavitaaon me uski ruchi hae. Vah use bahut zaroori buddhijivi saathi aur dhyaan pradaan karta hae. Charulata aur Amal ke beech ek gahri aur mastana dosti vikasit hoti hae. Is dauraan, Charu ke bhai aur bhabhi Bhupati ko uske paise se dhoka dete hae aur bhag jaate hae. Yeh Bhupati ki akhbaar aur chhapakal ko barbaad kar deta hae. Yeh ghatna Bhupati ko tod deti hae jo Amal ko apne dukh ko svikar karta hae. Usse Amal batata hae ki ab Amal hi vah ekamatra vyakti hae jise vah vishvaas kar sakta hae.

Amal apne bhateeje ka vishvaas ghaat karne ke ehsaas se vyakul hae. Vah Charu ke uncha intellect se bhi asahaj hae jise vah neevit kiya hae. Vah bina kuch kaha chale jaata hae, Bhupati ke liye ek patra chhodkar aur Charu ko likhne se rokta hae.

Charu ka dil toot jaata hae lekin apne nirasha ko chhupa leti hae. Bhupati galti se uske kamre me aa jata hae aur use Amal ke upar rote hue paata hae. Bhupati ko pata chalta hae ki Charu ke Amal ke prati bhavnaaye hae. Vah toot jaata hae, chauk jaata hae aur ulajh jaata hae.

Vah ghar se bahar nikal jaata hae aur apne carriage me bebas taur par ghumta hae. Apne vapas aane par, Charu aur Bhupati ek sanchetik gesture ki taraf badhne ka shyamtaur par ishaara karte hae, lekin unke badhaye gaye haath ek asaayi me thahar jaate hae.
