Canning Line

Canning Line

To ensure we are driving down our environmental impact here at the farm, we are seeking bids for a second hand canning line.

The machine will fill 6,000 cans per hour, will consist of a ‘de-palletiser’ which unloads the empty cans from a pallet into the machine, and a ‘uniblock’ which will rinse, fill and seam the can.

Aiming to keep our capital costs to a minimum, we then plan to utilise the existing tunnel pasteuriser, labeller and and end of line packing machines that already exist for glass bottles, meaning we can almost half the capital cost of a ‘complete’ canning line.

Cans are generally regarded as less impactful on the environment than bottles – less energy to create them and transport them (as they are lighter and more efficient to pack). Being able to grow our cans as a % of sales will contribute to an overall reduction in CO2 per litre produced for the business.

900kw Solar Installation

900kw Solar Installation

To support our ambitions to strive for a more sustainable future at the farm, we are installing a 900kw solar system.

As we have grown, so too have our energy requirements. Today, we consume around 1.4GW of energy, which at 0.193kg per kwh, equates to around 270T’s of CO2. The business has already invested in a turbine onsite, which produces ca 200kwh of energy, with the balance coming from the grid.

This project directly aligns with the national 'Net Zero strategy', where the ambition is for all electricity to come from low carbon sources by 2035. This project will supercharge our transition to green energy. We also plan to install our own solar farm onsite. Our facility currently uses ca 1.4GW of electricity which equates to ca 270T CO2. Having already invested in wind and solar, we currently offset approximately 39 T's. However, this project will be transformational to our energy requirements, allowing us to produce over 75% of our annual requirements and reduce our carbon footprint by a further 170T's.

Primary Production Capacity Improvement

Primary Production Capacity Improvement

Over the past 18 months, we have been working on incredibly exciting plans which have seen a new road laid, the installation of six temperature-controlled cyder tanks at 100,000 litre capacity per tank and the completion of an increased production facility to include; additional warehousing, apple pressing innovation and future space for creating a unique visitor experience.

Building on this for the next 12-18 months, we will enhance our production facility within this space, and improve our efficiency & sustainability, whilst creating more jobs in Cornwall.
