On today's tip on how to become a better ally: Give proper credit. Ever been in a meeting where someone claimed credit for an idea voiced by someone else? Or worse, an idea was overlooked until someone else repeated it? 🤔 This phenomenon is familiar to many, particularly women. Let’s see different ways on how to deal with that: 💡First, acknowledge contributions. When you hear a good idea, make sure to acknowledge the person who first mentioned it. Use clear and supportive language.  💡Give credit where is due. If you hear a woman colleague present an idea, but it's not given much traction until later on when restated by a man, speak up.🙌  💡Encourage others to join you. Set an example by consistently acknowledging contributions. Discuss the importance of giving proper credit in team meetings and promote a culture where everyone feels valued for their input. This not only boosts the confidence of the individuals but also encourages more innovative ideas and contributions, creating a more inclusive and supportive work environment. On today's tip on how to become a better ally: Address Interruptions. 🙋🏻♀️Hands up if you’ve ever been in a meeting disrupted by constant interruptions. We all know the feeling right? While it can be tricky, let's discuss strategies on how to deal with it and create a more inclusive space for everyone! 📢Use your voice to support those who need it. Address interruptions by calling out & calling in. If you're in a meeting and you notice a team member is interrupted or talked over, interject and offer your support at the moment, by calling them out. When calling out on someone at the moment is not that easy, make sure you speak to them in private, one-on-one. When calling someone in, make it clear that none of us are perfect, but we can all strive to be more inclusive, and this one action is a great place to start. And remember…every interaction counts! Being an ally is more than just a performative act. It's a commitment to continuous action and creating a culture of inclusion. Having diverse voices in the workplace is truly important. A 2019 McKinsey & Company study indicates that top-quartile companies for gender diversity on executive teams outperformed those in the bottom one by 25% in profitability. Fostering a more inclusive environment where everyone is heard, leads to better decision-making processes, and improved business outcomes.
