Celebrating World Oceans Day, we are excited to share the success of the "Thermaikos Dolphin Project," a pioneering initiative created by Sani Resort in collaboration with the environmental iSea NGO to protect marine life in the Aegean Sea. Over the past three years, dozens of expeditions have been conducted, identifying and cataloguing populations of bottlenose dolphins, common dolphins, and striped dolphins in Sani’s waters. More than 1,000 children have participated in educational workshops, raising awareness about marine conservation. This year the project is expanding further, with a resident marine biologist, new educational and underwater trails, as well as an important initiative to preserve the critically endangered Rough Ray through hatching rough ray eggs in aquariums at Sani Resort. This #WorldEnvironmentDay we are celebrating all the Sani Resort teams do to make our sustainable hospitality vision, a reality. Our team of ESG engineers work hard to monitor more than 25,000 data points and more than 1,000 energy and water meters to meet our energy reduction targets, as well as expand our renewable energy capacity. Our hotels run on 100% renewable electricity and all hands are on deck in realizing the ambitious vision to be net zero by 2030. Operations and Procurement teams have diligently worked to eliminate single-use plastic from guest areas, aiming to extend this across all operations by the end of the year, as well as achieve a zero waste to landfill goal. Our gardening team leads the charge in composting all garden waste, while kitchen staff separate organic waste to be composted too. Our resident marine biologist every week sets sail from the Sani Marina to monitor resident dolphin populations, while you’ll find our Eco Guide at the Sani Bee Spot raising awareness to guests and locals about the dangers these precious pollinators face. On this Biodiversity Day, we are proud to highlight our significant initiatives to promote biodiversity and green tourism in the Mediterranean. From comprehensive environmental programmes aimed at safeguarding key ecosystems such as pine forests and wetlands in Halkidiki to initiatives focused on the protection of dolphin populations in Thermaikos, we are paving the way for sustainability and sustainable tourism in the region. Our dedication extends to the protection of pollinating insects, with innovative programmes and educational activities in collaboration with third parties and NGOs. In 2022, we created the largest interactive bee spot in Greece at Sani Resort, an innovative garden friendly to bees, contributing significantly to the preservation and promotion of the area’s unique flora and fauna. Moreover, in April 2024, we launched the "Parnitha Bee Project" in partnership with TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas and the non-profit organisation Bee for Planet. Through this initiative, we have installed beehives with 1.5 million new pollinators to help replace those destroyed by the devastating wildfires of the last few years, contributing significantly to the restoration of the biodiversity of the area. It’s an honour to have been nominated for the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards once again. Now in their 37th year, the annual awards are based solely on the nominations and votes of readers, which makes the award all the more special to all of us here at Sani! 

Fittingly on Earth Day, a day created to raise awareness of environmental issues, the Sani/Ikos Hospitality Group is pleased to launch ‘SAVE THE BEE – The Parnitha Bee Project’ alongside TÜV AUSTRIA HELLAS and in collaboration with the non-profit organisation Bee for planet . Our goal is to aid the restoration of the biodiversity of Mount Parnitha within a three-year timeframe by installing 75 beehives to help replace those destroyed by the devastating wildfires of the last few years. These hives will be cared for by certified beekeepers until the flora of the mountain has been restored. From these hives, approximately 1.5 million bees, the planet’s most important pollinators, will fly on the mountain, helping to pollinate an estimated 6.4 billion flowers per year. 235,617 acres of land will benefit from this pollination making a marked difference to the rejuvenation of the area. #saniresort #sanigreen #savethebee #theparnithabeeproject #beefortheplanet #beeahero #sustainability #transformingtourismforasustainablefuture
