  • The IOA Dean, Prof. Konstantinos Georgiadis was in Besançon, France, where he participated as a keynote speaker at the 16th International Symposium for Olympic and Paralympic Research which was held on July 20-21, 2024 at the University of Franche-Comté in collaboration with the International Centre for Olympic Studies (ICOS) at Western University, Canada. Prof. Georgiadis gave a lecture on: «Olympic and Paralympic Games: equity, diversity and inclusion». The Symposium was an excellent opportunity for Olympic researchers, scholars, students and professionals to discuss on topics related to the sociocultural study of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Except for organizers, Prof. Angela Schneider from ICOS, and Prof. Eric Monnin, from the University of Franche-Comté, other members of the International Pierre de Coubertin Committee (IPCC), Olympic experts who have taught at the IOA, former IOA master and postgraduate students as well as Ms Maria Bogner and Ms Nuria Puig from the IOC Olympic Studies Center, had the chance to meet up only a few days before the Opening of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. #InternationalOlympicAcademy #OlympicEducation #OlympicSymposium #Besancon #IPCC

  • Yesterday, we had the joy of welcoming 15 University Professors from the Beijing Institute for International Olympic Studies (BIIOS) in China. They will participate in the 2-week “Olympic Professional Development Programme” that the IOA has prepared exclusively for them and which will cover a wide spectrum of Olympic topics. The programme is divided into four cycles of studies: 1. The origins of the Olympic Games – History, 2. The revival of the Olympic Games, 3. The modern Olympic Movement, and 4. Challenges in the contemporary Olympic Movement. The IOA has recruited 7 eminent professors and experts in their respective fields who will have the admittedly difficult task of teaching their…peers! Apart from the daily lectures, the BIIOS delegates will be meeting in working groups every afternoon and will also have the chance to use the Nissiotis Library in order to prepare their own academic presentations that they will share with their colleagues at the end of the programme. They will also have the opportunity to visit the archaeological site and the museum of Ancient Olympia and practice sports in the IOA sports facilities on a daily basis. This programme is part of the Memorandum of Understanding signed between BIIOS and the IOA in June 2022 which marked the beginning of a very fruitful collaboration between the two institutions and which will act as a springboard for many future joint endeavors. #InternationalOlympicAcademy #IOA #OlympicEducation #BeijingInstituteforInternationalOlympicStudies #BIIOS #OlympicEducation #AncientOlympia
