Støhle, CFO Andrew Papachristodoulou and Maran Gas (MGM) General Manager Despoina Moustaka, MGM Executive Vice President and Head of Technical Andreas Spertos and MGM LNG Commercial Director Jason Bikos joined executives from #SamsungHeavyIndustries and #TotalEnergies at Geoje Island Shipyard in South Korea earlier this month to celebrate the naming of our two new LNG carriers, the #MaranGas Nice and the Maran Gas Antibes. The two Bureau Veritas classified vessels incorporate an environmentally friendly design with innovative solutions, including air lubrication, shaft generators, an LNG sub-cooler and a new propulsion engine type that reduces the methane slip. The “Nice” and “Antibes” names represent the historical ties between Greece and France, mirroring the strong relationship between the Angelicoussis Group and charterer TotalEnergies. 🌊 The tide is turning in the maritime industry! 🌟 It's an exciting time as we witness the integration of women happening faster than ever before. While women currently represent only 1.2% of the workforce according to the latest BIMCO / ICS 2021 Seafarer Workforce Report, there has been registered an upward trend by a remarkable 45.8% compared to 2015. This is a big step towards gender equality in the maritime industry. In our Group, we are proud to be part of this empowering movement with over 230 amazing female seafarers, making up 3% of our total pool, more than double the global average! Although we still have a long way to go, we are determined to continue breaking barriers and creating opportunities for more talented women to thrive in this incredible industry. Our Deputy CEO, Mr. Sveinung J.S. Støhle, was the keynote speaker at the International Propeller Club Port of Piraeus Members' Day event on Friday 10th of May, on the theme: "Navigating through challenging times towards a sustainable future". How do we navigate today's challenging environment? Focusing on your business model and core values is essential, according to Mr. Støhle. For our Group, this translates into a) taking a long-term view when investing in our people, customers and vessels, b) caring about our employees and c) Innovation. New ideas are often born under pressure! 💡 So how do we move our industry towards a sustainable future? "Decarbonisation is a transition, not a switch," emphasised Mr. Støhle. Managing the existing fleet in the most environmentally friendly way and investing in dual-fuel LNG vessels which can reduce CO2 emissions by 40%, is at the heart of our Group’s sustainability strategy.  🚢 🌎 Our Deputy CEO added, “We believe LNG is the best solution; it is proven, safe, competitively priced, and available today”. He also explained that technical developments and the right infrastructure are still needed to ensure the safe use of other non-carbon fuels, such as ammonia, hydrogen, and methanol. Over the weekend, one of our LNG carriers was involved in a successful search and rescue (S&R) operation near Indonesian waters. After receiving a distress call from a small cargo vessel that had caught fire in her accommodation, our vessel diverted to rescue the ten crew members on board. The following day, the rescued crew were safely handed over to the Indonesian Coast Guard for repatriation and our vessel continued her passage towards Eastern Australia.
