Codeium support #4726
Comments
Big 1, Codeium is a free AI-powered toolkit, while GitHub Copilot can be expensive for some. Supporting Codeium will certainly help boost developer's productivity, and attract more users to use Zed. |
This is the need of the hour :) |
It would be great to have it |
UP And needs to support Gihub Copilot Chat 😀 |
Codeium dev here, sounds like a good idea to me :) |

I'm wanting this too. Listening to the changelog podcast episode with Nathan Sobo right now and heard him talking about copilot integration on Zed and immediately looked into codeium integration. I've used both and think codeium is better (though it's been a while since I've used copilot maybe they've caught up) |
I would love to see that support in Zed, it would most likely mean the demise of visual studio code on my mac. |
I want to mention at this point we have first party integrations in some popular environments, including CodeSandbox and Deepnote. It would be great to automatically provide our features to any Zed user. |
Do we have any kind of roadmap or Gantt to know when will be finished? |
Once it's available I'll switch to zed & codeium for good! |

i really love zed and codeium, so if u could mix it up together it would be a game changer for many devs to use zed as main code editor |

I'd like to kindly ask everyone not to send " 1"-type messages as many of us are subscribed to this thread and want to hear about actual updates. As Moshyfawn said:

So, it is a free open source code editor but the only code assistant that we can use is one that is paid? Very funny... |
Adding to list of comments requesting codeium support |
that would be great if Zed will support Codeium |
Zed is free as in free to use, but also free to modify. If you would like to see this feature, then feel free (hah) to submit a pull request for it. @JosephTLyons Can we get this issue limited to collaborators? Apparently people think that spamming comments will help get this implemented. |
@injust wouldn’t that freeze the number of thumbs up? This issue is already the 5th most popular in terms of thumbs up, and the exponential popularity of Codeium should make it even more wanted. |
sorry 😐 didn't want to spam.. |
Ugh, yes you're right. That is so annoying. Guess there's no easy solution to the spam problem then... |

Describe the feature
Currently only Github Copilot is supported in Zed. It would be nice if Codeium AI is integrated into zed as well.
If applicable, add mockups / screenshots to help present your vision of the feature
