Describe the bug / provide steps to reproduce it

High GPU usage (~90%) while moving the mouse around or when typing.

GPU usage is shown in the bottom right corner

Zed: v0.144.0 (Zed Nightly 813cc3f)
OS: Linux Wayland fedora 40
Memory: 3.5 GiB
Architecture: x86_64

I have a similar issue.

  • Zed 0.143.7
  • Debian 12/x86_64
  • Wayland

If I run watch sensors is another terminal window, the GPU power without zed is about 5-7W, every interaction with the zed window (even just the cursor entering the window) makes the GPU power jump to 15-30W (of the allowed 35W).

It is not slow or unresponsive, though - I only noticed it due to my GPU fans ramping up.

#15166 is probably the cause of this
