Zed won't start on arch linux derivative #13671

Hello!

I wanted to try zed and noted that it was available on cahchyOS in the extra repo . But it doesn't start.

logs say

so I tried

but to no avail.

hope there's a way to disable telemetry from the start ore something to make it work

Have you tried installing it directly with curl https://zed.dev/install.sh | sh?

I am on Vanilla ArchLinux using Wayland with Niri, and I installed Zed from the extra repo. Zed won't start using the Nvidia GPU on my system. It will work using the Intel integrated one, but only if given a file name to open. If I launch Zed from the terminal, it won't open at all.
@dpicassom what does the vulkaninfo --summary and ls /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d command output?

An update on this. Installing the zed-git from AUR and using the curl https://zed.dev/install.sh | sh script, both worked for me on ArchLinux (Wayland Niri Compositor). I have launched Zed using the integrated GPU and my Nvidia card, and it worked without issues.

Using zed-git on AUR works for me. It must've been fixed since the last release or there's an issue with how it's built.

I have the same issue on NixOS, using nixpkgs 24.05 (stable);

Running zed from the command line logged nothing and exited immediately until I specified a folder to open;

Now, running zed works just fine, as it defaults to opening the previous folder I had opened.

Now, clicking "Add Folder to Project" does nothing, simply prints new; in the log file with no open dialog etc.

@Quantumplation What Desktop Environment or Window Manager or Wayland Compositor do you have? Have you install a xdg-desktop-portal?

Recently updated to 1.45.1, and I can now add projects just fine; however, I did get this error in a little modal in the corner:

ZBus Error: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown:
The name org.freedesktop.protal.Desktop was not provided by any .service files

Other than that error being displayed, I got a prompt to let me pick which folder to add to the project.

It's working fine on my cahchyOS with Intel driver. I build Zed from source.

I literally have the same problem, on my Arch Linux with Nvidia, I first installed via curl, the application starts, but when I run "zed-editor" to see the logs and try to log in for example, it shows me this:

I removed zed installed with curl and installed with pacman -S zed (zed-git with AUR is the same)
