Windows Security throwing a hissy fit over version 121 #189
Comments
These are the parts of the application that I'd last expect to cause problems. My custom installer and DLL wrapper are fine but not the Supermium executable? Anyway I'll try submitting them through this method: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/filesubmission Someone already got progwrp.dll corrected in Kaspersky. |
Supermium IS for Windows 8.1 and lower. You should use something like this to get less problems. |
@unattendedplayer - you are of course right, Supermium isn't designed with us folks on Windows 11 in mind. I am using it because it's the only game in town that a) supports MacType font rendering via the flag "Force GDI font rendering" AND b) has an up-to-date version of Chromium. The only other GDI font rendering browser, Cent Browser, hasn't been updated in over a year. The Chromium browser you refer to doen't support GDI font rendering... However, I don't want to take winss' time and resources away from developing a useful Chromium browser for the XP/Win7 community, so @win32ss - you are more than welcome to disregard this issue or close it, if you don't want to prioritise your scarce time fixing stuff for Win11 folks. |
Shortly after installing version 121 earlier today, Windows Security blocked the program due to the percieved threat "Win32/DefenseEvasion.A!ml"
Later this evening, Windows Security blocked the program due to the percieved threat "Win32/Bearfoos.A!ml"
In both cases, the involved files were:
C:\Users\matt1777\AppData\Local\Supermium\Application\chrome.exe
C:\Users\matt1777\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Supermium.lnk
I had no problem removing these threats and restoring the files with elevated privileges (as you can see in the screenshots), but it's only a matter of time before the IT department calls me up and says "wtf are you installing on a company pc?!" I'm planning on replying "just a superior version of Chrome", but it would be nice to offer an explanation... 😉
