The variable TTF is nice but WOFF would be great too.

Would be great. For now I've used: https://henry.codes/writing/how-to-convert-variable-ttf-font-files-to-woff2/

Thanks. This program exists in Ubuntu too. https://packages.ubuntu.com/impish/woff2

I converted WorkSans[wght].ttf to WorkSans[wght].woff2 using woff2_compress from Ubuntu package woff2, added both to a web page and switched back and forth. There is absolutely no difference.
