Hi there! ๐Ÿ‘‹ About me

I am a graduate engineer trainee @ Mox Bank.

I obtained a ๐ŸŽ“ BEng(CompSc) degree with 1st class honours @ ๐Ÿซ HKU.

In 2022-23, I have been a student RA for Dr. John Yuen @ HKUCS on a number of ๐Ÿ” security and cryptography projects.

In 2021-22, I worked as an โš’๏ธ trainee at ๐Ÿฆ HSBC, and spent a ๐Ÿ–๏ธ summer at ๐Ÿข ASTRI working on ๐Ÿ—จ๏ธ speech recognition.

Before that, I have served as a student TA for COMP2113/ENGG1340 @ HKUCS.

My Final Year Project was on machine unlearning in federated learning.

Fun fact about my name

The official romanization of my last name ้ปƒ is HUANG as in Pinyin for Standard Northern Mandarin because of my mainland Chinese roots. However, I have grown keen on the Hong Kong culture and its Cantonese language, which romanizes the character as WONG (in Jyutping). Hence, you may also refer to me as such unofficially.

My native language is New Xiang Chinese (Urban Changsha), and hence the more accurate romanization of my last name by which my families call me is WAN or WAAN (Similar to how you would say ็Žฉ/ๅฎŒ/ไธธ in Standard Northern Mandarin). Similar to Cantonese, my mother tongue does not differentiate between two common Chinese surnames, ้ปƒ and ็Ž‹, by sound, either.

In the history of Chinese language romanization, "father of Pinyin" and supercentenarian, Zhou Youguang (Chou Yu-kuang), is my personal hero, not only because of his work romanizing Chinese in the era of leaning to one side of the Cyrillic Soviet Union (interview by Tang Shizeng), but also because of his great personalities and values.
