TDistVsNormal

This Shiny application provides a comprehensive tool for exploring the properties of the t-distribution. It allows users to experiment with the t-distribution and understand how it compares to the normal distribution. The application demonstrates how the t-distribution has heavier tails compared to the normal distribution for small sample sizes (degrees of freedom, df), and how it converges to the normal distribution as the sample size increases (df approaches 30).

Educational Insights

Why Use t-Test for Small Samples: The t-distribution is preferred for small sample sizes because it accounts for the additional variability introduced by estimating the population variance from the sample. When to Use z-Test and t-Test: For large sample sizes (greater than 30), the t-distribution converges to the normal distribution, making the z-test and t-test effectively interchangeable.
