The Knowledge about the CarbonFootPrint of a Product is crucial for the overall footprint any organization is emitting.

The product should contain a property:

Name: CarbonFootPrintProduction
Definition: The amount of greenhouse gases and specifically carbon dioxide emitted by the production of this product

Dear @klacol, @danbri , Developing-Team,

I´d like to pick up this issue. Back in 2021 the product carbon footprint of a product might have been less in focus. However, it might have changed significantly since then.

In particular in industry related business the product carbon footprint is an important property needed for detailed analysis of products and the impacts they have.

There are model propositions out there which do describe a (minimal) set of information needed, e.g.:

https://github.com/admin-shell-io/submodel-templates/tree/main/development/Carbon Footprint/1/0

It would be great to pick up the discussion on this topic - maybe via the W3C community group.

Happy to hear back from you.

Best

Georg

@GeorgFerdinandSchneider I like your idea! W3C community group is a good idea! We should consider what is already defined by ECLASS.

Whatever the final decision will be: I strongly recommend to use structured types for the values, either via the PropertyValue route or QuantitativeValue, because this will allow attaching contextual meta-data (like measurement procedure, source of data), without which CO2 footprint information is likely useless.

Also see valueReference and detailed examples in the (archived) GoodRelations wiki.

Dear @Ane58 ,

thank you for your reponse. Great, I then I will send through the W3C community group and ask if we can setup a call related to the topic? Is there regular calls scheduled in the group were we could schedule a slot?

@mfhepp thanks for the remark!

Existing models on how to model product carbon footprint (not exhaustive)
