What is the bug or the crash?

I cannot open old project. When opening a saved project the loading gets stuck on one layer and freezes. There is no error message and the layer that the loading gets stuck on is different for different projects. I can create new projects and load the old layers in which works and these new projects can then be open and closed without problem until I try to create a figure from a saved template then the whole thing freezes.

The projects are all saved to a shared one drive and accessed by multiple colleagues. Only two of us are having problems with it and we worked on a shared file together. The original file we worked on together has been deleted and QGIS redownloaded, updated and old versions tried multiple times. We have also updated windows and computers and it is still not working. The problems started last Thursday. My one drive says it is fully synced and I am not having any issues with any other files or documents, only those related to QGIS.

Steps to reproduce the issue

1. open project
2. respond to any text box that appears about unavailable layers
3. Gets stuck on the blue circle loading icon trying to load a layer (see attached)
   
4. close application in task manager

Or

1. create new file
2. load layers from previous project no longer responding in
3. go to create figure from template in file
4. whole thing freezes
5. close application in task manager
