I wrote something quick to add a list of contacts from a file, would that solve your problem?
The tox:toxid URLs should work if qTox was installed correctly. If they don"t, please file a bug with the details and I"ll be happy to take a look at it.

Edit: #4183 should fix that.

Just one question: Does the contact list just contain the plain Tox-Ids? In that case, adding a name as comment would quite helpfull. I could easily identify users who have left the company and not add their names to the list of new users, which would only cause confusion. I was thinking of someting along tis line:

There are no up-to-date nightly builds, we"re looking for a maintainer that would be willing to pick up that stuff: #4174

Well, compiling qTox shouldn"t be complicated if you have the dependencies installed – a single cmake command ought to do the job. If there are parts of INSTALL.md that aren"t easy to follow, please don"t hesitate to point them out.

Aside from INSTALL.md there is simple_make.sh script which might, or might not work – if it works, then getting dependencies and compiling qTox is as simple as running a single script.
