Fur language (poór'íŋ belé) [iso 639-3: fvr] resources and computer aids.
Windows:
- Open keyboard/fur_alt_win_installer-01.zip or keyboard/fur_xcv_win_installer-01.zip (depending on which layout you want to install)
- run setup.exe
Mac OS X:
- Open keyboard/Fur_mac_poor_in_bele.dmg
- drag Fur_02.bundle into the folder that appears on the screen to install
- Note: To remove an old keyboard (e.g. if updating the version of your Fur keyboard) delete the files for the old keyboard in "~/Library/Keyboard Layouts/" or "/Library/Keyboard Layouts/" (if installed globally). May require reboot to clear cache.
Linux:
- TODO!
Basing our keyboard maps on the orthography suggested in the SIL publication Kutsch Lojenga and Waag 2004: "The sounds and tones of Fur" (https://www.sil.org/resources/publications/entry/35935) - this seems to be the accepted orthography in publications in these years at least (2004-2017)
Basic latin: c, f, q, x - not used.
Added chars:
ATR vowels, nasal consonants
Differences from IPA:
A̲/a̱ | Ɨ/ɨ | Ʉ/ʉ | Ŋ/ŋ | NY/ny | J/j | Y/y |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
/ŋ/ | /ɲ/ | /ɟ/ | /j/ |
(todo - unicode way to render keyboard layouts?)
.. ʉ ɨ a̱ ŋ tone-marks: áâǎ
QWERTY layout - overriding unused letters in Fur (xcvqf), to Fur letters (a̱ ɨ ʉ ŋ ny).
Fur letters in green, tone marks in pink. Gray-alt key - provides the original US-qwerty key below it.
The two layouts can actually be installed and used on the same machine, alternating between them when you type in "mostly English" with a few Fur words or vice-versa, or till you see which one suits you better.
Provided. Status bar icon: P'ŋ
Language code: 'fvr' (after installing the package - searching for "poor"/"fur"/"fvr" will find the language) Same common layouts. (called 'alt' and 'zxc')
Bug: Language icon is black, should be 'color reversing' (it's not visible on dark background currently)
The provided keyboard, installs the keyboard layouts as "Maori"
- Dominic's keyboard (Google Play) - supports the above Fur alphabet as part of the "Sudan" keyboard map.
No known keyboard. Keyman - on some settings, should provide something, esp now that Keyman is a SIL project.
