Can we better change this to update the es_es, contents? Having only one, as neutral as possible Spanish would be more useful.

I understand the point, but es_es is also gender neutral, I don't think this is the correct form of Spanish writing but I'm very respectful about the idea behind that writing style. Es_mx exist before but it was mostly empty so if we want to have only one Spanish version Hurt is fine (I don't want hurt any susceptibilities)

Yes, we agreed with using gender neutral after having two Spanish Versions last year. Especially since the content is exactly the same in both localisations.
