There could be an option to make the dashboard grid feel more like a canvas (ie. no grid at all ?) so that users aren't restricted by the spacing, and they can add things like lines / arrows / groups to connect and overlap on tiles. This would also feel smoother. Maybe there are two options , where the existing rigid grid is the default option.
The dashboard UI makes it difficult to build reports that demonstrate relationships between metrics (i.e. metric tree-style) or to visualise operational workflows that are more nuanced than a basic funnel. One thing that would open up quite a lot of new possibility would be the ability to build dashboards in which the tiles don't automatically snap to the uppermost available space, and the developer can place the tiles wherever they want.
It would be powerful if it were possible to create things on dashboards that don't live within tiles (e.g. lines or arrows between tiles; boxes around groups of tiles, etc.).
