The bug

I have created a new user, and shared multiple albums with this new user. The new user can see these shared albums and all their assets.

(Imagine creating a user so someone could go through some of your albums to put things in their own 'highlights' album.)

The new user cannot add any of the assets in the shared albums to their own album.

An 'Info' message pops up and says 'Asset was already part of the album'. It was not in the album before doing these actions, and it is still not in the album after doing these actions.

This seems to happen independent of which way they create the album, and it doesn't seem to matter whether they create a Shared album or a private album. It also happens when I create a new shared album and grant the new user Editor permissions.

There are no errors in the Immich server logs.

Your docker-compose.yml content

None. I'm using the Helm install of immich/immich but I don't think that's part of the problem.

Your .env content

I don't have a .env file.

Reproduction steps

1. As Admin: Create a new user
2. As Admin: Share an album with this new user
3. As New User: Create an album
4. As New User: Try to add any asset from the shared album to your new album

Relevant log output

There was nothing in the logs.

Additional information

Is this a limitation I haven't seen documented, or is it a bug?

If it's a limitation it would be great if it were documented in https://immich.app/docs/features/shared-albums/ and the message was clearer. (Saying 'Asset was already part of the album' was confusing to me, especially when the album remained empty.)

If it's a bug, is there a workaround?

I think this is a sensible workflow but the current permission model doesn't allow it. Let see what we can do. Thanks for reporting.
