As of a few weeks ago (late July), the Samsung fridge ice maker has been on the fritz, making very little ice for the most part, maybe one tray a day if that.

I contacted Samsung because it needs to be fixed and I figured we'd be better off finding out who the approved people were near us:

I called. They charge €30 deslocação and will then give us a quote for the fix once they diagnose the problem on-site.

They're pretty booked up at the moment so will get back to me asap with a date for probably 2 weeks from now.

It still makes ice and dispenses it if you apply the manual override. But I haven’t shown any guests how to press the button out of fear that one of them will abuse (break) it and then our bill to fix the ice maker will be 5-10x more. 😬

Worth considering: buy a new filter for the water (of the fridge) as it’s dispensing much slower than at the start of its life; my hunch is that the whole system is constrained by a clogged filter. 💭

Just got ice out. Might be worth informing the technician that it works some of the time …

I did, I said it works but very slowly. Still waiting for a booking.

We thought maybe the new water filter had solved the problem #286 but really what solved it was cooler days that don't require industrial quantities of ice for every person in the house.

This week I emptied the ice maker as a test and about 30 hours later it had only produced 3-4 trays of ice (accounting for a little usage):

Would you agree we need to call the repair people to come in after all @nelsonic?

If they can update something to make it work faster, sure. 👌
But you need to remember that certain people dispense a full glass of ice 🧊

water-glass-ice

whenever they drink a glass of water ... 🚰
So it's a question of the ice-maker keeping up with the consumption. 💭

Oh well, I thought that the ice maker was working very slowly but if you think it's just unusually high consumption, we can leave it for a while.

I'll do the test overnight instead of over 24 hours.

To do the test “overnight” you need to check when the last person goes to bed and again before they wake.
because, like I previously said, there are people who get a full glass of ice - not a couple of cubes - for each glass of water they drink. 🙃
So we either need a dedicated ice-maker like in Gerês, or we have to advise people not to use it.
Because when the ice dispenser runs out and people keep pressing the button they will eventually break it which will be costly and time-consuming... 😢
