Gordon Woodhull is stepping down from maintaining dc.js at the end of 2022. He may occasionally respond on Stack Overflow or on GitHub issues, but will no longer maintain or contribute to the project.

Deepak Kumar (@kum-deepak) has volunteered to be the active maintainer, but he needs your help:

  • Beta testing new versions and features
  • Refactoring, adding features, and fixing bugs
  • Improving documentation
  • Answering questions on GitHub Issues, Stack Overflow, and mailing list

Please reach out through this ticket or through our emails in bios if you are interested in becoming a maintainer.

dc@5

Deepak is taking dc.js in a new direction in dc version 5, available in the dc-v5 branch.

Design goals include:

  • Simplifying and modularizing code; separating concerns
  • Server-side filtering and aggregation directly supported without workarounds
  • Fully ported to Typescript
  • Saving and restoring filters

Due to fixing longstanding issues with dc.js, the interface will not be backward compatible, but there are codemods to ease the transition.

I would love to contribute to the maintenance of the repository if new members are still needed.

Thanks for developing this impressive tool @gordonwoodhull and thanks for taking over development @kum-deepak!

@kum-deepak Hello. I would love to become the maintainer and help dc.js grow. It is one of my favorite javascript charting libraries. In the references you can see two visuals I built with dc.js . I see myself adding value in all the bullet points Gordon outlined and I love your vision as well, especially the typescript porting. A few ideas/features I have are

  • Ability to save visuals as json specifications a la vega
  • Python Wrapper/Interface a la Altair
  • External data querying a la crossfitler-sql or smartfilter (related to your 2nd point I believe)

I know some of the above might be out of scope.

I wanna echo @kleczekr and thank you @gordonwoodhull and @kum-deepak for working on this amazing visualization library.
