EXPERIENCE

Aug 21 - Jan 21 Founder-in-Residence – Entrepreneur First, Toronto (VC accelerator) Joined competitive accelerator accepting <5% of applicants. Invalidated MVP during 30 user interviews.

Jan 21 - Aug 21 Chief of Staff & BI Product Manager – Patch Plants, London (VC Backed eCom startup) Promoted, taking on product management & line management of BI team as well as below responsibilities.

Aug 19 - Jan 21 Strategy Manager – Patch Plants Reported to CEO, and sat on leadership team which steered company direction & decision-making. Role included CEO office, coordinating quarterly objective (OKR) setting process, and special projects:

  • Business Intelligence Product Management: Revamped BI work planning process to increase team accountability and progress visibilty. Improved clarity and timeliness of requests to BI. Caused sprint planning to halve in time. Advocated & oversaw moves from Stitch to Fivetran, Segment to Rudderstack.
  • Reducing Low-Value Orders: Identified characteristics of unprofitable orders using data from across the business (Data from Looker, Snowflake SQL, Google Sheets, Viz in Looker / Python Plotly). Prioritized minimum basket value feature to reduce the impact of these, balancing against CX. Eliminated over 90% of contribution margin negative orders.
  • UK Wide Delivery: Prioritized rollout of Patch from London to whole UK delivery. Set up stage gated process with progression criteria to ensure success. MVP launched in 2 months, and 1 month after launch new business reached size of previous London operation

Oct 18 - Aug 19 Consultant – OC&C Strategy Consultants, London

Mar 16 - Sep 18 Associate Consultant – OC&C Strategy Consultants OC&C is a boutique strategy consultancy, competing with top tier (MBB) consultancies in Tech, CPG, retail and B2B services. Undertook 20 commercial strategy & due diligence projects, including go-to-market strategy, marketing strategy, customer segmentation, & operational transformation. Typically led teams of 2-5 Associate Consultants. Example projects include:

  • Commercial Due Diligence – ThreatMetrix: Conducted market, competitor and customer review of fraud detection and prevention business focused on consumer banking. Interviewed c.20 enterprise customers to understand key segments and use cases of cyber-security products, and willingness to pay for solution types. Sized and forecast different product types’ addressable markets.
  • Rollout Strategy – European Food Delivery Platform: Ran project for an EBITDA profitable, rapidly growing European food delivery start-up, to understand key drivers of city profitability potential, and ran city level market prioritization exercise for next cities to launch into.

Aug 13 - Sep 13 Software Engineering Intern – BT

  • Developed face recognition module (C ) for app aiming to break down workplace silos in enterprises.

EDUCATION

2014-15 MSci – Physics, University of Cambridge 1st Class Degree Project: Epidemiological models of disease (implemented in C ).

2011-14 BA Natural Sciences, Physics, University of Cambridge 1st Class in all 3 years Foundation & College Scholarships - Top 20% of class (June 14).

2011-14 A Level, Berkhamsted School, UK 5 A*s at A Level (Graduated top in class of 200 students) Awarded the highest scholarship to study at the school.

SIDE PROJECTS & OTHER INTERESTS

Technical Skills

Tech enthusiast, capable SQL analyst, Python hacker. Experience rapidly prototyping products to test business ideas:

  • EV Charging Platform: App to help EV owners charge from any chargepoint. (Built in Python Flask, deployed in Heroku). Conducted 8 user interviews, documenting 10 key charging pain-points, and used this to prioritize features. MVP features included a mobile-first site, a rapid payment journey (Apple / Google Pay support), and a map to locate nearby chargepoints.
  • Staff Wellbeing: Identified and raised problems with staff project satisfaction with management, pitching improvements in transparency and accountability. Given 3 weeks off project work to build data collection app to improve satisfaction visibility (Windows C# app, Typeform survey). Recruited beta users to test MVP, identified and implemented ‘launch critical’ features, then deployed to 600 staff internationally. Data now published weekly and used to optimize project team size and hours.
  • Wordle Solver: Simple web app to aid solving viral game, Wordle (Postgres, Python Plotly-Dash, Bootstrap, Heroku).
  • Sun Tracking: Live dashboard I built in lockdown 2020 showing when I should schedule lunch to maximize the chance of eating in the sun on my balcony. (Built in Python, hardware with Raspberry Pi light sensor).

Cambridge University Lightweight Rowing Club

  • Beat Oxford University in 2015 Lwt Boat Race, after winning place in university crew, training 12 times per week (25hrs).
  • National standard; raced at British Rowing Championships and trialed for GB team.
