Take two, on master. Idea: maven plugin dependency resolution could do it smarter: augment it with: * depMgmt (apply core) * direct dependencies rewritten (if needed) These two results, that for example there is only one maven-core version resolved (downloaded POM and JAR), not 10s or 20s versions. CMD: `mvn clean install -Dmaven.repo.local=local -Drat.skip` (and always emptying local repo naturally) w/ master: Size: 143MB Files: 4604 w/ master this PR: Size: 131MB Files: 3995 This PR is experimental, and contains limited set of "constituent artifacts". --- https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MNG-7097
