Splite's configuration can be set via environment variables. This is useful for cloud deployments such as Heroku, and Repl.it.
Keep the following in mind when using environment variables:
- Prefix the configuration key with
SPLITE_
. - Environment variables MUST be in all caps.
- List values are separated by a comma.
- Nested properties are separated by an underscore

For convenience, the bot will output an environment variable equivalent of your config file upon startup.
To run the bot in Docker, fill the config.yaml

A command can be implemented using a classic text-based command, a slash command, or both.
In this section you will see how to create a command that can be used both as a classic command and a slash command.

- MISC: This is the default type, and is used for commands that do not fit into any other category.
- INFO: Commands that do not change the state of the data and are used to display information.
- FUN: Commands that are used to entertain people.
- POINTS: Commands that are used to manage user points, gambling, economy, etc.
- SMASHORPASS: Commands that are used by the Smash or Pass system.
- NSFW: Commands that are NSFW (Not Safe For Work). NOTE:These command will only work in NSFW channels.
- MOD: Commands that can be used by server moderators to manage the server.
- MUSIC: Commands that are used by the music system.
- ADMIN: Commands that can be used by server admins to manage the server.
- MANAGER: Commands that can be used by bot managers. NOTE These commands can ONLY be used by bot managers (set in config.yaml).
- OWNER: Commands that can be used by the bot owner. NOTE These commands can ONLY be used by the bot owner (set in config.yaml).
These are the restrictions that can be set for a command.
To restrict a text command to only be used if a user is in a voice channel, add and set the voiceChannelOnly
property
to true
.

To restrict a command to only be used by Splite Bot Managers, set the type in the Command file to MANAGER

Cooldowns are handled by the commands own instance. Each command has a cooldowns collection and a default cooldown of 2
seconds. A cooldown can be specified by adding the cooldown
option in the constructor of the command.
If the exclusive
option is set to true in the constructor for the command, the calling user will not be able to call
that function again until the done() method is called. This is useful for commands whose functionality might not be
instant. For example, the kick
command is not instant, when it is called, a prompt is displayed to the calling
user, and it awaits the user response. While the command is awaiting the user response, the user can call the kick
command again, and now there's more than one instances of the command waiting for the user's response.
We can avoid
this by setting the exclusive
option to true, and when the command finishes listening for the user's response, we can
call the done()
method. Now the user will only be able to call this method again only after that done()
method is
called.,
In the below example, once the user calls the prefix
command, they won't be able to call it again, until 30 seconds
after that command has been run.
Similar to the exclusive
option, but will act on an entire channel. This option allows for one running command at a
time in a channel, i.e. a trivia game command is set to be channelExclusive: true
, now if a user starts a game of
trivia, another user won't be able to start another game of trivia in the same channel until the first game is finished
(done method is called).

You should make sure your exclusive commands always call the done method.
If you forget to call the done() method, the bot will automatically call the done method 5 minutes after the command
was run to prevent unwanted lockouts from running the command

Splite also comes packed with a lightweight endpoint handler, powered by KoaJS.
This endpoint handler can help in creating a REST API for your bot, or by listening for external webhooks.
Endpoint handler only work if the webserver is running, you can enable the webserver by setting webserver.enabled
to true

- Authorization: Set the

TopGG is a popular bot directory where you can advertise your bot, and the more votes a bot has on TopGG the better chance it has of being listed higher. Splite's gambling system allows for dynamic odds, so we will setup a system, so if someone votes for our bot on TopGG, we increase their odds by 10%.
TopGG comes with an endpoint you can query everytime you want to see if someone has voted for your bot. However this endpoint has extremely heavy rate limiting. To counteract this, we will query the endpoint once every 5 minutes, and if the user has voted, we will cache their vote so we don't have to query the TopGG API anymore for this user for 6 hours. However, if the bot starts checking for votes for thousands of users who have not voted, we will flood the TopGG API, and the bot will start getting rate limited.
This would work, and is in fact a strategy we use in Splite to check for votes, but it is not very friendly when it comes to User Experience.
Imagine this, a user checks their odds by running the odds
command, the bot queries the TopGG API, user has not voted,
and the bot will wait 5 minutes before it queries the API for this user again.
Now the user goes, and votes for our bot, they run the odds
command again, but now the bot is waiting on the 5 minutes
to be over, before it can check the TopGG API again to verify the user's vote.
After waiting for 5 minutes, the user checks their odds
again, and now the 5 minutes wait is over, and the bot
verifies the user has voted by checking the TopGG API, and caches the user's vote, so
for the next 6 hours, the bot will not have to query the TopGG API for this user.
The user waits 5 minutes after voting, and that is not a good user experience. How can we fix this?
Instead of using the TopGG API over and over again, TopGG also provides a webhook, so that everytime someone votes for our bot, TopGG sends us the user's vote to an endpoint of our choice.
Let's create an endpoint handler that TopGG will send us the user's vote to.
Before you can start creating and using endpoints, you must tell Splite you wish to do so by setting webserver.enabled
to true
in the config.yaml
file.

Splite's webserver will automatically do routing for you by using the folder and file names inside the src/endpoints
directory.

The above URLs are for local development, to access the endpoints outside of your own network, you must use the external IP address of your computer and set Port Forwarding, we won't be covering that here.
Now assuming, you have port forwarding set up and the webserver is accessible from the internet, you can provide the URL of your endpoint to TopGG, and your bot will be able to receive votes from TopGG, and update the database accordingly.
⛔DO NOT use the above example in your project since a complete implementation of TopGG webhooks is already provided with all the functionality built-in. Check TopGG Integration for more information.
Splite provides 2 modes for integrating with TopGG.
api_mode
(Default) uses TopGG API, caches the votes in memory, does not interact with database, and comes with the above mentioned limitation (5 minutes wait after voting)webhook_mode
uses TopGG webhooks, does not use the cache and stores/retrieves the votes in database. Requires endpoint to be accessible by TopGG and is much more reliable.
To use TopGG webhooks, first make sure Splite's webserver is enabled (webserver.enabled
set to true
in config.yaml
) is accessible from the internet by sending a GET request to <yourIP>:17170

a 200 OK response, you can proceed to the next step.
Simply set webserver.enabled
to true
and apiKeys.topGG.useMode

to the authorization-string provided by TopGG to make
sure only TopGG can access the webhook.
