I need help figuring out what to do, so far all I have managed to do is move the cards at the bottom up and down. Pls help I really want to play this game
Click and drag the cards to things on the hex grid to play the cards on them. That should hopefully get you started, happy to give more hints as needed. Good luck!
I definitely am exploring some spiritual themes, and there are definitely some cult-y things happening, but I wouldn't say there is an explicit cult (at least not yet!)
I found success, but the game seems a bit trivial once you figure out what's going on. Being able to hide the heart in an unassailable fortress of eyes is kinda unfair, but since enemies only spawn when you choose them to and only if you put some in your deck, finishing is kinda simple. It seems from the comments other people have taken to minimizing the number of played cards as an unofficial hard mode, but that seems kinda overly luck-dependent for me. Nevertheless, the game was fun, and it feels sufficiently fleshed out imo. Thanks for making this!
Yeah, I think those are all fair criticisms. I wanted to do more, but ran up against my self imposed 3-month deadline. If I can secure some funding, I'd love to return to this and add lots more. Tell your publisher friends! :D
Metaprogression in roguelikes is the progress you make in between the individual runs. In some roguelikes, the metaprogression is sort of 'in the game' - you unlock upgrades or new items or something. A lot of people like that kind of thing! I prefer roguelikes where you get better by playing the game and improving your own skills/knowledge. In those types of games, the metaprogression is your own understanding and skill!
ye i know what metaprogresion. I was wondering how this was different from a game without metaprogresion? is it just that it tells you nothing and the metaprogresion is just figuring things out
I seem to have permanently froze the enemies in front of me, and the rest of my board is all spores. Seems impossible to clear them out, and I also cannot die.
Might be good to add a turn timer to unfreeze, it'd be an easy way to prevent this from happening. I'd rather be killed for my blunder than be put in an infinite zugzwang like this.
you can always just burn spores. they have chances of dropping coins, and coins block spores, until you just burn all the spores to death. takes 2-3 hands of cards to do though.
Seeks are good, I think you can even get the same candle twice a turn if you play it first.
btw there is a small bug with Spores in round 2, when they replicate in front of the Bad Eye, then get shot, and instead of spawning the gold in the empty place, they sometimes spawn it in their origin place that's already occupied by a Spore.
Another bug/trick is to burn the eye from just below the board, you can burn 1 card this way without taking damage. But you don't need that, you can clear the bad cards by winning the round. Just get enough candles.
Thanks so much for the bug report, it has to do with the order of events with the spore and Bad Eye. It's one that could potentially be a big pain to fix, so might just let it live until I have time to do a bigger update. Really appreciate the thorough bug report!
Also really appreciate the explanation of your technique. So much fun to watch the theorycrafting unfold!
a few things I found out: you can move an indestructible eye in front of the heart to be safe. you can fill the board with spores to make it much easier to defend (honestly not necessary though)

Trying my hardest to succeed under 100 cards, my best so far is 104
Mannn that was fun! beat it on my second try after I realized what I needed to do with the candles loll
the game is interesting and kinda creepy, I'd love to see it expanded tbh
Thanks so much, I'm glad you liked it!

That was tough.
Woo! Well Done! :D
I played your other game and I noticed a theme around religion and the 'Be Not Afraid' eye. Is this by any chance set in a cult of sorts?
I definitely am exploring some spiritual themes, and there are definitely some cult-y things happening, but I wouldn't say there is an explicit cult (at least not yet!)
Hated it. 5/5
its looks like a good game except for the fact that its stuck on the loading screen and i cant play it pls help
oh no! I've noticed that it can take a while for some people, maybe just refresh the page and give it plenty of patience? What browser are you using?
oh ok yeah it does take awhile and even if i refresh it loads up and is stuck on the screen and I'm using chrome

lol, don't call me out like this, I just like speedrunning... but I agree, this game was very fun!
how do I use interrogate
Use it on anything on the board to learn more about them, get hints, read some Kate Bush lyrics, etc.
also I can’t seem to make any of the cards except for bade to do anything
Keep experimenting, and I bet you'll figure it out!
Cool game, what dose it mean by you are the metaprogression tho

Pretty much, yeah.
This is an incredibly easy game, but all the things obscuring how to play it makes it challenging in the beginning.
I really like this idea of kind of a game of mao roguelike lol
<3
I seem to have permanently froze the enemies in front of me, and the rest of my board is all spores. Seems impossible to clear them out, and I also cannot die.
Ah, yeah, I suppose that can happen. Might be best to reload at that point.

There is a way to unfreeze enemies, though I suppose it's possible you purged that away?

had to jump trough so many hoops to get this
the game doesn't tell me how to play it
Where's the fun in that?
no like it literally took me a long time to figure out how to play a card.
GOOD wait… do it AGAIN ?
DO IT AGAIN.
DONE !
Proud of you.
Matt I found success
whoa! This is a really good score. What was your strategy?

New record.
😲
Uploading VIDEO of how I play (104 card win, but my 78 card record, pic below, is the exact same strat)
Reading these comments has unlocked so much stuff that I just didn't get... Time to play it again.
Thanks so much for posting your playthrough, incredibly helpful!!
I got the hang of speedrunning the game.
You want the eyes to take damage, which makes you drop cards, which makes you play fewer cards.
You can also use burn cards on yourself to get rid of cards faster.
Genius. This is awesome to watch. Love to hear the advanced strategies!
Amazing game, I just wish it were harder or took longer to beat
Thanks. I totally agree about the length. If it's popular enough, I have lots of ideas for additional content. Just need to find some funding 😬
This is by far the current high (low? ) score. Well done!
It was my 2nd run, got many luck
a few things I found out: you can move an indestructible eye in front of the heart to be safe. you can fill the board with spores to make it much easier to defend (honestly not necessary though)
Ah, I hadn't even considered the spore strategy. Nice work!
unclear instructions: half of my deck (~50 cards) is spores and i only have 1 purge. please send help.
edit: update-i died due to too much zap and too little inoccent meat.
I'm struggling to understand how to purge or glorify the correct card. I can't intuit how that is supposed to work. Is it random???
Yeah, so the strategy is to only have the card you want to affect in your hand.
Although it's a little bit like running up that hill, sometimes, it's me, I've come home and completed it.
Nice.
Fun game! I recorded my first 10 minutes with the latest version:
Really appreciate the recording. Incredibly helpful!
no!! I don't wanna make a Deal With Myself!!
those only bring pain!
A little pain never hurt anyone! :D
THIS GAME IS SO TRICKY!
I believe in you!
At least one of us does.
