codex_io
A downloadable asset pack
codex_io is a typeface I created to represent a fictional alphabet.
I've used it in a bunch of different projects over the last few years. I developed it as a way of building a sequential group of glyphs that would allow text to be produced at small scales. Mostly I use it for 3D printing text onto jewellery.
Once you get used to the system it can be a nice script to write by hand, joining certain characters. Written like this it begins to resemble a leafy plant or vine.
The font also includes a simple number system. I used a base-4 number system which was easy to represent within the logic of the current glyph set: the characters 0 - 3 are represented. This was particularly useful in the creation of a music score and book created with Nathan Bissette (we usually collaborate as Dead Hand)
I thought it might be interesting to release the font now and see if it has any use for anyone else. One of the tools I used when beginning to explore this was the simple handwriting to font app, https://www.calligraphr.com/en/
The font is published with the SIL Open Font License - but I'd also request the principles of The Anti-Capitalist Software License are followed primarily.
