About Us: Photonics Ghana is a group of Ghanaian experts in Photonics and students pursuing Photonics related course bot at undergraduate and graduate level. We seek to create an avenue for experts and students in Photonics to connect, collaborate, and to share ideas that will lead to a positive collaboration with industry and academia with an emphasis on research collaborations with Africa. One of our core mandates is to educate and support the training that will arouse the interest of young scientist in Physics and the applications of Photonics in Ghana. The group will play a key role in promoting the use of Photonics applications in addressing the everyday challenges of our country as well as assisting in demonstrating the potential of Photonics as a driver for economic growth in Ghana and Africa at large. The group will also highlight the contribution of Ghanaians in the field of Photonics. Mission: To position Ghana as the gateway to Africa in photonics education and application. Photonics Ghana seeks to create an avenue for experts and students in photonics to connect, collaborate, and to share ideas. It also seeks to educate and to support the training of young scientists in Ghana.

--- I had the incredible opportunity to participate as an instructor at the photonics outreach event organized by the KNUST Photonics Club at OWASS. It was truly inspiring to engage with enthusiastic learners and share knowledge about photonics. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to ( Akyana Britwum ) and all the organizers for their hard work and dedication in putting together such a successful event. Your efforts in promoting education and awareness in photonics are commendable. As someone passionate about this field, I am thrilled to have been a part of this initiative. It was a fantastic experience to contribute to the learning journey of others and to witness the excitement for photonics firsthand. Moving forward, I'm excited to continue leveraging my expertise in photonics and contributing to similar outreach efforts in the future. If you're interested in learning more about photonics or exploring collaboration opportunities, feel free to reach out. Let's continue to inspire and educate others in this fascinating field! 🍫Happy Valentine's Day! Celebrating love today reminds me of the love I experienced at OWASS. The boys were passionate about photonics💡 and deeply in love with it. It was like witnessing magic when they got to experience the practical side of what they learned. The hands-on approach tailored to their curriculum allowed them to understand the dual nature of light and delve into physics theory. This outreach program also helped them interact and connect with other physics students from Department of Physics, KNUST breaking down stereotypes about physics in Ghana. I felt thrilled to be a facilitator and explore photonics with these curious gentlemen from opoku ware school. It made photonics fun and engaging. I would like to express my gratitude to KNUST Photonics Club ,PHYSAG - KNUST, and Photonics Ghana for collaborating with us to bring this vision to life. This is just the beginning. We will continue to do this great work to create awareness about photonics. Our voice will be heard, and Ghana 🇬🇭 will fall in love with photonics. Of course, I’m the president of KNUST Photonics Club Prince Asare,Akyana Britwum, Prince Bawuah (PhD), George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP,John Amedzo,PRINCE EDISON ,Ephraim Rodgers ,Emmanuel Akoto Boateng, SMGhIG,Deborah Abayie .
We've kicked off 2024 with vigour at @Photonics Ghana, committed to fostering student understanding of photonics and physics through hands-on experiences. Our recent Senior High School outreach program at The Opoku School, OWASS was a resounding success, thanks to the support of FinCeal , University of Eastern Finland, and SPIE, enabling over 700 Ghanaian students and teachers to delve into the wonders of photonics with PEK kits. Excited to collaborate further with KNUST Photonics Club , Akyana Britwum and the whole KNUST team, whose dedication made the event a success. Gratitude to George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP, an Optica ambassador and valued member of Photonics Ghana, for his unwavering support. Special thanks to Opoku Ware School's Headmaster and Physics team for their warm reception and preparations, sparking enthusiasm among students encountering optical fibres and lasers for the first time. Eagerly anticipating our next outreach endeavour! #stemeducation #photonics #communityengagement Wilhelmina Jones Photonics Finland ICFOPhotonicsNL
Congratulations, George. We (members of Photonics Ghana) are proud of you. https://lnkd.in/d6SYsjT9
Welcome George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP, a new #OpticaAmbassador! George Dwapanyin is a Ghanaian research fellow at the University of St Andrews. In his first year as an #OpticaAmbassador, he aims to connect with other scientists on the African continent to assist in establishing student chapters in different countries. As a planning committee member and speaker at the Optica Amplify Optics Immersion Program, he's served as a mentor for dozens of young African students attending FiO. Before being awarded the Erasmus Mundus scholarship to study in the Europhotonics program, he trained as a nuclear scientist in Radiation Health Physics after working with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission.
