Are you excited? Did you have fun? Did you learn something? To these questions, the students who participated in today’s #scifest2024 event responded with a big YES! We had so much fun ourselves, answering questions that sent us back to the basic principles of light and electromagnetic waves. When it comes to #photonics, one thing is certain; the fun never ceases. Thank you, Cyril D. Here’s to a special day 🥂🍾 It’s not everyday that you meet someone who is devoted to others, sharing knowledge and wisdom with them. Fabian Ruf, you have been a mentor, a friend, a scientist, and great example to us. Still in the spirit of celebration, we say a happy birthday to you! 🥳🥳 ZEISS Group Optica PHYSAG - KNUST Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi #photonics #photonicsknust

As scientists, we are driven by the curiosity to understand and master the principles that govern our world. And as we grow in the knowledge of #photonics, one thing that brings us joy is sharing that knowledge with others. Tamale did not disappoint. Meeting students who were eager to learn inspired us the more. As we shared with them the concepts and applications of photonics, we learned many things from them as well. Frankly, it was all smiles throughout the outreach. The toil and efforts put in by all our instructors and members are highly commendable, and to our patrons and sponsors; Optica , ZEISS Group , Menlo Systems , Photonics Ghana , Akyana Britwum , George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP , Fabian Ruf , DR. MICHAEL K. E. DONKOR , Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi , College of Science, KNUST , Department of Physics, KNUST , PHYSAG - KNUST , we say ayeekoo 👏🏽. None of these would have been possible without you. A big thank you to @Ibrahim Mahama and all who welcomed us to Red Clay. We look forward to more of this! #photonics #photonicsoutreach #stem #light #outreach

The International Day of Light !!! Do you know that light behaves as a particle and as a wave? The concept of photonics can be used to study these phenomena in various ways, ranging from dispersion of light into its component colors to studying the constituent particles that make up matter. The students we encountered at the outreach in Tamale got a first-hand access into understanding these concepts. Particularly, the students were introduced to the concept of microscopy where they used mobile phones as a microscope with the help of experimental kits provided by ZEISS Group and Optica, and other interesting experiment with light. The possibility of these things is why the International Day of Light is an important day for us. As we celebrate this day, let us be motivated to share the knowledge of light to the less brightened parts of the world. Happy Light Day! Just as you said George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP . Today feels exactly like Christmas, and we are sharing in your light 💡. The day has just begun. More fun on the way! #internationaldayoflight #photonics #photonicsoutreach
When you love what you do, the thoughts of doing it makes it feel like Christmas even in the middle of May. The mood in the bus of the facilitators for the Optica - KNUST Photonics Student Chapter outreach team as we start activities for our International Day of Light in Tamale, Northern Ghana is uplifting. For us, the joy of giving and sharing knowledge is comparable to the joy of Christmas. ZEISS Group should make Fabian Ruf lead the Christmas carols this year...he's a natural😃. The lead conductor for this outreach choir is Ephraim Rodgers supported by Wilhelmina Jones. All this is made possible by kind courtesy of Optica, Ibrahim Mahama of Red Clay and SCCA, ZEISS Group, Menlo Systems and supported by College of Science, KNUST, Department of Physics, KNUST, University of St Andrews and Alexander Jantzen. We are truly grateful. #internationaldayoflight, #outreach, #photonics, #shineourlight.

KNUST Photonics Student Chapter reposted this
Day 1 of the Tamale Outreach The participating school was University for Development Studies. A presentation was made by George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP introducing the students to the concepts of photonics and its applications. Fabian Ruf spoke to them about the fabrication of integrated circuit optical lithography - which deals with how the principles of optics and photonics are used in the manufacturing of microchips at ZEISS Group. After the introductory sessions, the students had the opportunity to not only understand the theory behind photonics but also experienced and partook in various hands-on experiments. A special thanks goes to our main sponsors and patrons: Optica, ZEISS Group, Menlo Systems, George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP, Fabian Ruf, Akyana Britwum, Michael Kweku Edem Donkor We also extend our gratitude to: Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, College of Science, KNUST, PHYSAG - KNUST, SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, Photonics Ghana.
