🇬🇭 #Ghana envisions having its 🥇 first #nuclear power plant operational sometime in the early 2030s. The choice of reactor #technology remains open, with various vendors offering both large-scale reactors and smaller modular options. 🇬🇭 #Ghana is likely targeting a capacity in the range of 1000-1200 MW from its initial nuclear power plant. Several countries have expressed interest to build Ghana's first nuclear power plant. These include 🇺🇸 #USA, 🇰🇷 #SouthKorea, 🇷🇺 #Russia, 🇨🇳 #China and 🇫🇷 #France. 🇷🇺 #Russia: Russia, through its state-owned nuclear energy corporation Rosatom, has been actively involved in discussions with Ghana. State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom" has a history of nuclear power plant construction in developing countries and have both large and small reactor offerings. 🇰🇷 #SouthKorea: South Korea's nuclear industry is highly developed, and the country has shown interest in collaborating with Ghana on its nuclear ambitions. Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) could be a potential vendor offering the #iSMR technology 🇨🇳 #China: China has a significant nuclear energy program and a track record of infrastructure projects in #Africa. Companies like China National Nuclear Corporation (#CNNC) could potentially be involved in Ghana's nuclear plans. 🇫🇷 #France: EDF could offer its NUWARD or #EPR technology for Ghana's nuclear plant project. This technology is used in existing French nuclear power plants and is being considered for new projects worldwide. 🇺🇸 #USA: The US has an MoU with Ghana signed in 2021 focusing on cooperation and Ghana's involvement in the #FIRST program. This could open doors for US technology vendors like TerraPower GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy X-energy NuScale Power and Westinghouse Electric Company in the future. This 27-30 May 2024, the 🇬🇭 Ministry of Energy, Ghana will host the annual Africa Nuclear Business Platform (#AFNBP) conference and exhibition in #Accra. ⏬ Download the meeting agenda here - https://lnkd.in/ggB9T4Nr #AFNBP #NBP #nuclearenergy #NetZero #SMR #energy #nuclear

My people! 🇭🇺 I met Ms Gabriella Grüner, #Projects #Coordinator at the #Ministry of #Agriculture, #Hungary on LinkedIn last year, and we connected so well. We later met at the ministry in Budapest when I visited. What was my reason? The Ministry had a lot of agricultural #training #opportunities in Uganda, and I wanted a similar one to be implemented in Ghana. She sent to me all documents on the project in Uganda and requested that in case I find any funding, they will come to Ghana. She later realised how passionate I was, but unfortunately, I had no funding. Fast forward, she and her team began some background work on how they can introduce similar projects in #Ghana with funding from their ministry. The Hungarian Embassy contacted me on potential stakeholders to realise this project. The evening when the messages and emails came through from the Embassy, it felt surreal. The little things becoming big was all on my mind. The good news is Ms Gabriella and her team are in Ghana to explore opportunities for the training and particularly involve the role of women in agriculture. One day at a time..... El Roi.....The GOD that sees me! 🙌🙌🙏🙏

⚛ #Ghana is moving forward with plans for its first #nuclear power station, aiming to select a technology provider by 2024 despite not having a clear financing model. The preferred location for the plant is Atuapim/Nsuban, with Obotan as a backup, and preliminary studies have been conducted at these sites. While progress has been made, securing financing remains a key challenge, potentially affecting the timeline of the project despite positive discussions with reactor technology vendors. I had the pleasure of interviewing Stephen Yamoah, executive director of Nuclear Power Ghana, about the country's ambitious #NuclearPower project. ➡ Read our most recent piece at NucNet Nuclear News Agency (paywall): https://lnkd.in/dY5j-9qJ #energy #Africa #nuclearenergy
