Association of Guernsey Charities

Non-profit Organization Management

The umbrella organisation for charities in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. Supporting the heart of our community.

About us

Any charity based in the Bailiwick of Guernsey (Channel Islands) can join the Association of Guernsey Charities. Our website provides details of all local charities (with links to their websites if applicable) as well as guides and information that may be useful to charities and voluntary organisations. The Association of Guernsey Charities is also responsible for the distribution of monies from the Channel Island Christmas Lottery. Each year the proceeds from this bumper draw are given to charity. Applications are invited from members and the Executive Council, who manage the day-to-day affairs of the Association, build a shortlist of recommended allocations. Since 1991, over a million pounds has been distributed to local charities, enabling many major projects. Most years, however, the amount of money available is less than a third of the total requested by the charities.

Have you been considering how your business can get involved in local CSR initiatives? CSR enhances brand reputation, fosters trust with stakeholders, and attracts socially conscious consumers. Additionally, it can improve employee morale and productivity by aligning their values with the company's initiatives. Embracing CSR also mitigates risks associated with environmental, social, and governance issues, ultimately leading to long-term financial success and positive societal impact. Wayne Bulpitt, Chairman of the Association of Guernsey Charities (AGC), shared some ways in which businesses can help local charities, and these can be found on the IoD website here: https://lnkd.in/enP3FMmT #IoDGuernsey

  • We’re pleased to share insights from the recent IOD Convention which launched the report on Social Capital in Guernsey. The report highlights many of the island’s strengths, including accessible outdoor spaces, strong cultural heritage and social connectedness, all vital to our community. It also sheds light on challenges and threats that need to be addressed to strengthen our social fabric. We believe that third sector organisations not only support these strengths but also play a crucial role in addressing the challenges raised in the report, from building stronger and more inclusive communities to safeguarding our environment and heritage.

Last night, the IoD Guernsey branch hosted its highly anticipated 2024 Convention, where it unveiled the findings of a groundbreaking research project on the island’s social capital. The report, titled "Social Capital: The Key to Economic Growth and Social Wellbeing in Guernsey," offers a detailed exploration of how social capital influences Guernsey’s economy, businesses, and community well-being. Authored by Tristan Claridge, Director of the Institute of Social Capital, the report is the result of extensive research conducted on the island between June and September 2024. Drawing on in-depth interviews and surveys, it highlights the strengths, vulnerabilities, and opportunities within Guernsey’s social fabric. IoD Guernsey was proud to share this important research at the Convention and looks forward to collaborating with local leaders to shape a stronger, more resilient future for Guernsey. We also extend a special thank you to this year’s Convention sponsors - Carey Olsen, IQ-EQ, Sure, UBS, Consilium Insurance Brokers and Aston CM (Guernsey) Limited Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/gaR5pQ4v #IoDGuernsey #SocialCapital #Guernsey
