We are happy to announce that the ICC World Council appointed Sophie Tkemaladze as a Member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration for a three-year term commencing as of 1 July 2024. Sophie was nominated by the ICC Georgian National Committee based on her experience and expertise in arbitration. She has served as an arbitrator and counsel in multiple cases under the GIAC, ICC, LCIA, and DRC Rules of Arbitration and has had a pivotal impact on the development of arbitration in Georgia. She served as the Chair of the Georgian Association of Arbitrators (2017 – 2021) and was the driving force advocating for the amendments to the Law on Arbitration (passed in 2015), the development of the Code of Conduct for Arbitrators, accreditation system of arbitrators and first ever Georgian Ad Hoc Arbitration Rules. She also served as a member of the Arbitration Council of GIAC from its foundation in 2014 for two consecutive terms, till 2020. Sophie is well known as a practitioner and policy maker in the field of mediation as well. Her contributions to resolving commercial disputes have long extended beyond national borders. ICC Court is one of the key institutions that seek to strengthen the rule of law in international commerce and investment. Being part of the court is an honor and a responsibility that Sophie has earned and will carry with her inherent integrity and wisdom.

As we celebrate the renewed composition of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, it occurred to me that a big reason behind the resounding success of our recent Tbilisi conference has been its emphasis on the institutional continuity of ICC Arbitration – with former and current Vice-Presidents of the Court, former, current, soon-to-be former and soon-to-be new members of the Court all in a vibrant tandem in that room, it has been such an impressive show of force for the ICC network of dispute resolution professionals in our wider region, and how the greatness of an institution is in part measured by the greatness of its alumni network!
