GEODIS contributes to the decarbonisation of ArcelorMittal’s supply chain using HVO.
We are proud to collaborate with ArcelorMittal Europe to help our customer achieve its goals of reducing its carbon footprint. Thanks to our transport solution that uses HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), we contribute to the decarbonisation of the company’s supply chain.
What are the benefits of using HVO?
HVO is a fuel that is made from 100% renewable sources such as vegetable oils or reprocessed waste. It reduces CO2 emissions by up to 82%, and provides a flexible, sustainable and easily deployable solution.
“ArcelorMittal wanted to decarbonise its supply chain while controlling its economic impact. We have been providing distribution services for this customer in Lorraine for several years, and have been thinking of ways to reduce its carbon emissions. The challenge was to offer a flexible solution that is more environmentally friendly and adapted to ArcelorMittal’s transport plan, and that could be deployed quickly with an excellent return on investment,” reports Guillaume Dalle, Key Account Manager at European Road Network.
In late 2022, ArcelorMittal’s France Nord division launched a low-carbon initiative. At our Florange site in France, which produces a wide range of flat steel products, we partnered with GEODIS to use trucks running on HVO for short-distance steel deliveries. The pilot results from 2023 are impressive: 190,000 tonnes of steel were transported over 579,833 km, reducing CO2 emissions by 794 tonnes—a remarkable 82% reduction compared to diesel trucks. This initiative will continue throughout 2024.
