Founded in 2011 in Paris, France, by both scientists and environmental activists, Next40 and B Corp-certified, the company processes insects into high-end, high-value ingredients for animals, plants and humans. From its purpose-built state-of-the-art farms, Ÿnsect offers a long-term, sustainable, organic solution to accelerate protein and plant consumption. Ÿnsect uses pioneering proprietary technology covered by more than 430 patents, to produce its mealworms in fully automated vertical farms. Ÿnsect runs several production sites, including the world's largest vertical farm in Amiens, France. The company exports its products around the world.

    International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer: Ÿnsect’s commitment to a sustainable future. 🌍 On the occasion of the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer, we would like to reaffirm our commitment to developing sustainable nutritional solutions that promote environmental protection. The planet is facing a major challenge: agriculture, forestry, and land use account for about 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions (World Bank). In this context, food production will need to become more efficient while respecting the limits of our natural resources. This is where Ÿnsect plays a key role. Our insect-based protein production methods allow: 🔹 40x less CO2 emissions: With agrifood systems responsible for 31% of global emissions (FAO), reducing greenhouse gases through our methods helps prevent stratospheric temperature changes that can accelerate ozone depletion.   🔹 30x less water usage: Agriculture consumes about 70% of the world’s freshwater (FAO). By employing vertical farming, we drastically lower the environmental strain from water-intensive practices, contributing to the preservation of the ozone layer.   🔹 40x less land required: Minimizing land use significantly reduces deforestation, a major factor in carbon emissions. Currently, agricultural deforestation contributes heavily to climate change, but preserving each hectare of forest can absorb up to 9.5 tons of CO2 annually (FAO). How does this protect the ozone layer? 🤔 Every resource we save helps to reduce the pressures on our planet. By using less land, conserving water and limiting greenhouse gas emissions, we contribute to stabilizing the climate and providing the ozone layer with the conditions necessary to restore itself.     In 2020, we broke ground in Amiens to begin construction on our new farm, the largest of its kind. Four years later, it is now complete and stands as the crown jewel of our industrial model. ŸnFarm reflects our commitment to combining nature with industry to reinvent the food chain with natural, healthy, and sustainable products derived from insect farming. But do you know why we chose to settle in the Hauts-de-France region, particularly in the suburbs of Amiens? 1. ⚙ The Hauts-de-France is a land of expertise: first, industrial expertise, which we have benefited from by surrounding ourselves with collaborators who have worked in the region's largest industries; but also unmatched agricultural know-how. We benefit from proximity to farmers, allowing us to purchase cereal by-products to feed our insects. 2. 📍 An ideal geographical location: the Hauts-de-France is a gateway to the rest of Europe. The region's proximity to our neighboring countries and the rest of Europe facilitates trade with our clients. 3. 🤝 Local support: by establishing ourselves in the Amiens region, we have also benefited from special support from local partners, who are well-versed in the sector and the markets. This milestone is revolutionizing the way we approach industrial insect farming. Over the past three years, our dedicated researchers have developed cutting-edge tools and conducted deep genetic studies to boost the efficiency of our farms. By establishing a reference population, we've been able to uncover phenotypic variability and estimate heritability for a wide range of traits. 🔬 This breakthrough will not only optimize our farming practices but also contribute to the entire sector's advancement, paving the way for more sustainable and efficient livestock management.     Ÿnsect Summer Recap 2024 #5 We’re thrilled to continue our Ÿnsect Summer Recap 2024 series with a major milestone for our pet food brand, Sprÿng! 🐾 After a rigorous 2-year authorization process, we secured the first-ever authorization from the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) for the commercialization of defatted mealworm proteins (Protein70) for dog nutrition in the United States. This landmark achievement paves the way for Sprÿng’s expansion in the American pet food market, which was valued at over $42 billion in 2022. 🐶 This authorization was granted based on a comprehensive scientific dossier, including a 6-month trial introducing Protein70 into the diet of dogs. The results demonstrated both the safety of the product and its nutritional benefits as a substitute for commonly used animal proteins. We are incredibly proud of our team and partners for making this possible.
