Tractebel Challenge 2024  We’re thrilled to share the success of the 14th annual Tractebel Challenge, held on September 7 in Butgenbach, Belgium. With 55 teams from Belgium, France, and Germany, along with colleagues from Hydroprojekt, Laborelec, and ENGIE Impact, the event was a huge hit! 🌟   🏅 Our participants took on a series of exciting challenges, including mountain biking, orienteering, running, canoeing, and biathlon. We had 27 Expert teams, 26 Adventure teams, and 2 Discovery teams—seven more teams than last year!—showcasing incredible teamwork and determination in a beautiful natural setting.   Our CEO Harvengt Anne was present that day to witness the team spirit and was awarding medals to our winners!   A special shout-out to all the volunteers who made this day possible. 🌊🚧 Progress in the making: a key visit to the construction site for Elia Group's Princess Elisabeth Island.  👷 Last week, the management team from Tractebel and IMDC visited the construction yard in Vlissingen to witness the different stages of caisson construction. These massive structures will form the foundation of the new island, which will be located 45 km off the Belgian coast in the North Sea.   ⚡ As the world’s first artificial energy island, the Princess Elisabeth Island is Elia’s flagship project. The island will play a crucial role in Belgium’s energy future and will serve as an electricity hub that will bundle together the cables leading to wind farms in Belgium’s second offshore wind zone, helping to bring up to 3.5 GW electricity they generate back to shore. It will also act as an intermediate landing point for interconnectors that link Belgium to other European countries.   🤝 As part of the Owner’s Engineer consortium, TRACTEBEL, IMDC (a company of Tractebel), Svasek Hydraulics, and TRACTEBEL DOC OFFSHORE GmbH GmbH, alongside CDR - Coasts Deltas Rivers, are proud to support this ambitious renewable energy project by providing expert construction management and organizational services. One of Europe’s largest battery parks takes shape in Belgium! 🌍⚡ Exciting news for sustainable energy in Belgium! By early 2026, the Vilvoorde Battery Energy Storage Park, one of Europe’s largest, will store 800 MWh of renewable energy—enough to power 96,000 homes for four hours! 🏡💡 This massive project, supported by Tractebel as Owner's Engineer, covers 3.5 hectares and includes 320 battery modules.
