À notre grande stupeur, Mediapart a publié ce mercredi 7 août un article révélant que la qualité de l’eau de la Seine n’était suffisante que 20 % du temps depuis le lancement des JO le 26 juillet. Depuis le 15 juillet dernier, Surfrider n’a pas pu refaire de prélèvements sur le site de la compétition, n’ayant pas obtenu de laissez-passer pour accéder au Pont Alexandre III. Surfrider suivait donc de près les résultats de la qualité de l'eau communiqués par la préfecture chaque semaine, mais depuis le 23 juillet, plus aucun résultat n'est communiqué. Afin d'assurer la transparence de l'information auprès des citoyens, Surfrider demande à toutes les parties prenantes de l’organisation des JO de Paris 2024 de rendre l’ensemble des données publiques et de mettre à jour les bulletins hebdomadaires de la préfecture. Nous demandons aussi à ce que les données soient publiées en mentionnant clairement les méthodes analytiques utilisées. Il est de la responsabilité des organisateurs de faire preuve d’une transparence complète à la fois pour la sécurité des athlètes, mais aussi pour l’information des citoyens. 🏟️ As Paris hosts the Olympic and Paralympic Games, we have a chance to rethink our impact on the ocean. With packaging waste, especially single-use plastics, in the spotlight, it's crucial to consider reusable long-term alternatives. The Games have seen countless plastic bottles and packaging used, highlighting a broader issue: 80% of marine litter comes from land-based sources, and a staggering 85% of it is plastic. This mismanaged waste often ends up in our ocean, harming marine life and NEVER disappearing. 🌞 How about we take a closer look at our sunscreen tube? 🌿 It's holiday season in Europe, and you should be concerned about harmful ingredients in sunscreens such as octocrylene, benzophenone-3, homosalate, and octinoxate. These chemicals can have adverse effects on our bodies and ecosystems. It is essential to strictly regulate and remove them from our sun care products. Transparency and readability of sunscreen product labels must be improved for consumers. Information about ingredients and their potential effects should be clear and accessible to everyone. Consumers have the right to know what they are applying to their skin. Additionally, it is crucial to restrict the use of certain sunscreen filters in areas with high ecological value or vulnerability. These fragile areas deserve special protection to preserve their ecological balance and the health of their inhabitants. As citizens, you are also part of the solution! We encourage you to follow the recommendations of the World Health Organization : Avoid sun exposure between 12 PM and 4 PM. Wear loose, light clothing, including swimwear, and use sun accessories such as umbrellas, hats, and sunglasses. Let’s continue to raise awareness and demand stricter measures for safer and more eco-friendly sun care products. 🌍 Today, Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected as President of the European Commission 👉 Here's our take on her speech and the published political guidelines: On the bright side: ✅ Green Deal Continuation - Still in play, aiming to merge climate protection with a prosperous economy. ✅ Ocean Pact - Although not mentioned in her speech, it's included in the political guidelines. Key points: 1⃣ Among the concerns identified in the 1st minute of her speech : The state of our planet, especially for the younger generation. 2⃣ Main priorities: prosperity, competitiveness, defense, security, EU independence, and democracy. 3⃣ Green Deal's future: - Clear intention to stick to it, yet, with pragmatism, technology-neutrality and innovation a focus on implementation and investment 💸 - Emphasis on reconciling climate protection with economic growth = presented "as a matter of intergenerational fairness" ⚖️ - Next environmental agenda: climate impacts on agriculture, sustainable water management and climate adaptation 👩🌾 4⃣ Promotion of citizen engagement. 5⃣ Calls for social justice and fairness, with references to current geopolitical situation (Ukraine, Gaza, China). 🔍 Our conclusion: ➡ Environmental action is given less prominence but remains on the agenda.  ➡ The ocean was not mentioned in the speech but is in the political guidelines. ➡ We have immense work ahead, but we're ready to take it on!
