Serve The City Paris has just launched our P.A.C.K. Program (Providing Aid through Corporate Knowledge). A program designed to address the challenges of finding work for young immigrants and refugees in Paris, by implementing workshops and joint activities that leverage the knowledge of corporate employees, and their experiences from searching for employment in France. Employees from French and international companies have an open discussion about finding work and integrating into the French work culture. Employees are given the opportunity to share personal job search challenges and successful strategies. Individuals exchange insights and stories with the young immigrants on their challenges and overcoming job search hurdles. Employees can also help our community of young immigrants how to conduct a proper interview. See attached document to learn more, or feel free to send an email to [email protected].

👉Volunteer Spotlight👈 Our volunteers are a diverse bunch. They come to us from the four corners of the globe, different ethnicities, ages, genders, religions, but the one thing they all share is a desire to help. They are the beating heart of Serve the City. But who are they really? Let me introduce you to Nethra.....  Where were you born? Kasargod, Kerala, India. What languages do you speak? Kannada, Hindi, Malayalam, English, and enough French to entertain a 7-year-old kid. What does STCP mean to you? STCP means different things to me. Initially, it was a place for me to use my time to give back to society, and now it has become part of my routine, my social group, a way to meet people from different parts of the world who have had different walks of life, and a source of joy and learning.  When you are not volunteering, how do you like to spend your time? I am a Jeune fille Au Pair to a loving family with three adorable kids. When I am not giggling around with them, I love to explore the amazing range of museums that we are blessed with here in Paris! I love to journal my thoughts and read about things that pique my curiosity. What is your favorite hobby? Is watching documentaries considered a hobby? If not, I love to socialize and make new friends and connections. Once in a while, I love to put on a face mask, listen to podcasts, dance my heart out to Bollywood songs, and play badminton! What is your favorite meal? Ooh, it's hard to explain because this is specific to my region! There's a dish called Idiyappam, which is rice flour pressed into noodles. I love to eat it along with Banana Rasayana, which is coconut milk with banana and sesame seeds. My description doesn't do it justice; you will have to try it yourself in southern India! With which person, living or deceased, would you like to eat that meal? Maybe Trevor Noah? I admire his humor and the way he talks about social issues through his comedy. Also, I might have a little crush on his curly hair. What is your idea of perfect happiness? When I am surrounded by people I love and we manage to bring smiles to each other's faces. Which living person do you admire the most? I admire Ravish Kumar for his unwavering commitment to delivering accurate news to the audience, especially in this era of political turmoil and the challenge of distinguishing between fake news and real news. Which talent would you most like to have? Is discipline considered a talent? It would be cool to cut down screen time and not snooze the alarm five times before waking up. What do you consider your greatest achievement? Learning to cook basic Indian dishes so I can savour my spices when I miss them. But I wouldn't consider it my greatest achievement until I learn how to make Idiyappam and Banana Rasayana.  If you were to die and come back as a person or a thing, what would it be? I always think it would be cool to be born as a duck, to swim in lakes and enjoy the beauty of both water and land.

🌎Language and Culture Exchange 🌎 Our French Language and Cultural Exchange program is something that we are very proud of at Serve the City Paris. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of Safiullah Taha, our Programs and Partnerships Manager, the program has grown into a very popular weekly event. Volunteers and beneficiaries get together for a brief French lesson on French lifestyle and culture, followed by discussion in small groups. The evening concludes with a shared meal. Stories are shared, friendships are formed, and memories are made. The program has proved to be deeply beneficial to all involved. As we begin a short break (enforced by logistical restraints linked to the Olympics), here’s a little look back over the last few months. Language and Culture Exchange will be back in August stay connected for further details.

☀ End of a Chapter with Serve the City Paris ☀ After an enriching month, I am pleased, yet saddened at the same time, to announce the end of my volunteering internship with Serve the City Paris, an incredible organization dedicated to supporting and assisting Paris's refugee and homeless populations. Over June, I had the privilege to work with a motivated team of volunteers. This experience has been greatly eye-opening, teaching me the importance of community, collective action and compassion. It has also reminded me of the efficacy and indispensability of civic responsibility in urban environments, where severe inequalities persist. Much remains to be done, especially with the ongoing evacuations and cost of living crisis. From discovering the different settlements across Paris in food distributions to engaging with beneficiaries in different languages at language exchange sessions every week, and even participating in a flash mob, I want to extend my gratitude to the lively volunteers, staff, fellow interns, and everyone involved in making a difference. For one of my Capstone Projects, I decided to organize an event for our female beneficiaries, who were not as visible in the activities provided by Serve the City Paris. To create a relaxed atmosphere for our beneficiaries, with the help of other volunteers from Serve the City Paris and Utopia 56, I planned a jewelry-making workshop. Under the bright rays of the midday sun, we thus had a successful picnic and made many bracelets and necklaces! With this initiative, I hoped to demonstrate that women refugees, who often face not only marginalization outside of their home countries but also gender-specific violence, should continue to be included in community-building efforts. While my time as a volunteer in Paris has come to an end, I remain committed to advocating for big-scale solutions to urban challenges. I hope to continue engaging in efforts to uphold human rights and mitigate disparities. Thank you for the memories, the lessons and the opportunity to serve! #ServetheCityParis

Serve the City Partnership with BimBamJob Our mission at STCP is to assist asylum seekers and refugees in various ways. One of these ways is by introducing them to organizations that help refugees find employment. BimBamJob is such an organization, focusing on job placement. Their activities range from providing training sessions on job searching to assisting with the recruitment process. Any refugee with at least an A2 level in French can contact BimBamJob and use their services. STCP has partnered with BimBamJob to support our beneficiary community by helping them connect with BimBamJob for employment opportunities. Since the beginning of the partnership, BimBamJob has been sharing job vacancies with STCP, and we, in turn, share them with our beneficiary community. Any refugee who is looking for a job or is struggling with their current job and needs advice can directly contact [email protected] or reach out to us at [email protected] for introductions and assistance. SAVE Capstone projects Last month, 3 impressive Capstone projects took place, where we were able to educate our volunteer community on various topics: human trafficking (created by Felecia Foster), the problem of Homeless Women in Paris (created by Anja Ahn), and the problem of Homeless Children in Paris (created by JiSuk Park and Yerin Ju). They highlighted very interesting facts and statistics about the number of homeless women and children in Paris, and the rise in human trafficking in cities hosting sports events, such as the Olympics in Paris.
