[Genome mining] is today’s topic in our SEQENBIOTICS summer series dedicated to SEQENS’ expertise in microbiology! 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴? 💡 “Genome mining” is associated with every bioinformatics investigation used to detect: - The biosynthetic pathway of bioactive natural products - And their possible functional and chemical interactions. 💻Genome mining is entirely dependent on computing technology and bioinformatics tools. Today, we have more than 𝟭,𝟱𝟬𝟬 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 from our microbial collection and 𝟭,𝟴𝟬𝟬 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲-𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 (MAG). 🔍To explore these highly diverse sequences and strains, we use private access to the Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives MicroScope platform providing us with an integrated environment for the automatic/expert annotation and comparative analysis of our prokaryotic genomes. We combine different efficient strategies to identify new coding sequences and new strains with metabolic pathways of interest. Our know-how, combined with the richness of our collection of microorganisms and (meta)genomes, enables us to identify new natural products (strain, enzyme, metabolite) for 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲. [Adaptative Laboratory Evolution (ALE)]  is today’s topic in our SEQENBIOTICS series dedicated to SEQENS’ expertise in microbiology! ALE is a very efficient tool for industrial biotechnology. Rational engineering of microbial strains has led to the establishment of a variety of successful bioprocesses, but it is hampered by the overwhelming complexity of biological systems.     Evolutionary engineering represents a straightforward approach for fitness linked phenotypes (e.g., growth or stress tolerance) and is successfully applied to select for strains with improved properties for industrial applications.    An increasing number of recent studies highlight the potential of ALE to:  ✔️ improve growth or stress resistance,  ️✔️ implement the utilization of alternative carbon sources,  ✔️ or improve small molecule production.    Advances in next generation sequencing and automation technologies foster the application of ALE strategies to streamline microbial strains for bioproduction and enhance our understanding of biological systems.    Seqens capitalizes on its expertise in microbiology and deploys ALE to optimize performance of natural strains. As part of a customer project, we used the ALE to improve the production of a compound of interest: we have improved the productivity of our natural strain by a factor 4 and the production of the interest compound by a factor 6 (see graph).    👉 Are you interested in this approach?
