À propos
The Resilience, Sustainable Energy and Marine Biodiversity Programme for Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories (RESEMBID), is funded by the European Union (EU), and is being implemented by Expertise France in collaboration with the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), World Bank. The Programme is implemented throughout the twelve Caribbean Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), namely: Anguilla, Aruba, Bonaire, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Montserrat, Saint Barthélemy, Saba, Sint Eustatius, Sint Martin, and Turks and Caicos Islands. The Prime Minister of Sint Maarten has been designated Regional Authorizing Officer (RAO) for the 11th European Development Fund Caribbean Regional Programme, and as such represents the 12 Caribbean OCTs, vis-à-vis the EU. The RAO liaises with national authorities and other stakeholders of the Caribbean OCTs, and plays a key role in information-sharing and knowledge management. The RESEMBID team is based in Sint Maarten, and is supported by Expertise France from Headquarters in Paris, France. The overall objective of the Programme is to support the sustainable human development efforts of the Caribbean OCTs. The programme is built on three pillars: Sustainable Energy, Marine Biodiversity, and Resilience – each having clearly defined operational objectives as follows: - Sustainable Energy: To increase energy efficiency of infrastructures with high impact on energy consumption. - Marine Biodiversity: To improve protection and sustainable management of marine biodiversity in OCTs. - Resilience: To increase the resilience of Caribbean OCTs to adapt to extreme and recurrent natural events (cross-cutting component). The Programme also administers a fast-tracked €10 million financing mechanism known as the RESEMBID COVID-19 Resilience Response Facility, that supports the OCTs in their efforts at managing and responding to the impact of COVID-19.

It's a [few hundred] conch!|🐚🍼 These are the first two egg masses of this year’s queen conch breeding season! The masses will be safely transported to the Queen Conch Hatchery wet lab incubators where the project team will begin the hatching process. This discovery is especially meaningful because earlier this year, the Queen Conch was listed as ‘threatened’ under the Endangered Species Act. This means that while extinction is not currently a threat for the species, it will likely become a threat in the future. #QueenConch #BreedingSeason #Curaçao - Expertise France European Commission

Transforming Anguilla’s Marine Parks| 🌊 🏖 🐠 The ‘Transforming Anguilla’s Marine Parks’ project enhances the health and resiliency of Anguilla’s marine parks through effective and collaborative management. Beyond its impact on marine habitats and biodiversity, the project helps sustain local fishery and tourism sectors. Anguilla’s sea grass beds and coral reefs form the backbone of the island’s nearshore fisheries, providing a home for diverse fish population. Healthy reefs also protect Anguilla’s coastal infrastructure and beaches, serving as a defense against ground seas and storm surges.
