🌐 To achieve Net Zero by 2050, we will not only need to electrify energy usages, but also develop other low-carbon energy vectors such as hydrogen.   📈 In 2021, the global #hydrogen demand reached 94 million tons. And the demand of hydrogen is expected to increase by 50% until 2050. Indeed, hydrogen is essential in chemical industries, for the desulfurization of petroleum products and for the heat production in industrial buildings and refineries. ⚠ In 2020, 95% of the hydrogen consumed globally was derived from fossil fuels. Grey hydrogen is produced by steam methane reforming, which is a chemical reaction between steam and methane. 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝟏 𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐎𝟐 𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏.   🎯 Therefore, the production of low carbon hydrogen is a key challenge for the energy transition. It can be produced by the electrolysis of water, using low-carbon electricity and heat.   In the future NUWARD #SMR could enable to drastically reduce the CO2 emissions from hydrogen production while meeting the increasing demands of industrial and transportation sectors.   👉 How ? NUWARD SMR could participate to the production of low-carbon hydrogen by being connected to either a low or a high-temperature electrolyser. The former uses water at temperatures below 100 °C, while the latter uses temperatures exceeding 700 °C. To power a low-temperature electrolyser, the NUWARD SMR would supply exclusively low carbon electricity. Whereas to power a high-temperature electrolyser, it would produce both low carbon electricity and heat 🌍 #sustainable

European Industrial Alliance on SMRs Kicks Off Concrete Collaborative Work! 🔍 The 1st General Assembly of the European Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) took place in Brussels, uniting key stakeholders to accelerate SMR development, demonstration, and deployment across #Europe by the early 2030s. 🚀 Why SMRs Matter: SMRs embody innovative safety features, making them attractive for integrating nuclear technologies into new industrial applications. With a limited footprint, they provide low-carbon electricity and heat, crucial for decarbonizing sectors like transport, chemicals, data centers, steel, and district heating. 🎙️ The Commissioners Simson, Breton and Ivanova inaugured the event. Kadri Simson, European Commissioner for Energy, said: “We need to lean on our well-established nuclear industry, build on this base, and speed things up to develop an entire supply chain for SMRs by 2030. Global competition is picking up pace. It's the Alliance's role to help position Europe in that race and ensure our technological and industrial capacity on SMRs.” 🎯 Strategic Orientation: During the General Assembly, strategic goals are being set. The Alliance aims to: ▪ Strengthen the European supply chain, including fuel and raw materials. ▪ Identify investment barriers and explore funding options. ▪ Engage potential industrial users, e.g., energy-intensive industries, hydrogen producers. ▪ Foster research and address skill gaps along the supply chain. 👤 EDF’s Leadership Vakisasai Ramany, EDF Senior Vice-President – New Nuclear Development , chairs the supply chain working group. His vision is to establish a clearer common ground between SMR/AMR developers and suppliers. 🤝 EDF and NUWARD’s Commitment EDF and NUWARD actively support the Alliance. NUWARD has the ambition to offer the European reference for SMRs with NUWARD SMR. Together with strategic partners Framatome, the CEA, and TRACTEBEL, we are looking forward to contributing to several technical working groups. 🌍 🔐 Energy Security and European Technology: As Europe strives for energy security, the Industrial Alliance on SMRs plays a pivotal role. By fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technological advancements, we ensure a robust energy supply for our continent. Let’s position Europe at the forefront of #SMR deployment! 🌍🔌

🌍 Net Zero objective by 2050: The necessity to #decarbonise global energy production   🎯 Global energy production relies primarily on fossil fuels. To succeed in the energy transition and achieve #NetZero, it is crucial to decarbonise our production of electricity and industrial heat.   🏭 In France and more generally in Europe 🇪🇺, nearly half of the energy produced is consumed in the form of heat. In 60% of cases, it is produced from fossil fuels. Industries are one of the largest consumers of heat ♨, with around 85% of their industrial heat requirements currently met by carbon-based means. On an international scale, most of the industrial heat also originates from fossil fuel combustion.   📈 As the demand for industrial heat continues to grow, its share of energy-related CO2 emissions is also increasing and is expected to account for a quarter of global emissions by 2040.   🌐 By producing both decarbonized electricity and heat, NUWARD SMR will meet the heat and temperature requirements of the chemical, paper and agri-food industries.
