📢 Mercator Ocean International (MOi) developed a new high-resolution forecasting system to monitor Sargassum algae drift. 🏖️🌿Sargassum masses have been causing major socio-economic, environmental and health problems in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea and the tropical Atlantic. MOi scientists have developed a new forecasting system with a higher spatial resolution, and the first tests showed promising results. This new system was developed as part of MOi's regional and global efforts to contribute to effective mitigation and adaptation strategies for Sargassum algae drift. 🔵 Last week, our Director-General Pierre Bahurel addressed the audience of the high-level event "Mediterranean and Atlantic Ocean Health and Coastal Resilience" organised in #Bologna in the framework of the G7 Science and Technology 2024 and the EU Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters by 2030”. His intervention focused on the EDITO - European Digital Twin Ocean and how this pioneering technology will represent a turning point in our ability to monitor the Ocean and take appropriate measures for its protection and restoration. The pre-operational platform of the #EUDTO was presented by the European Commission, Mercator Ocean International (MOi) and the VLIZ - Flanders Marine Institute in June at the Digital Ocean Forum 2024. We would like to thank again the Italian Ministry of Education, Universities and Research and the European Commission for this opportunity to raise awareness around the #EUDTO and its potential within the scientific community and the general public. #EUDTO #MISSIONOCEAN #EDITO_DTO #DOF2024
