Climate Change and Technology w/ Ling Tan | Making it Happen | S4 | Ep 43 Trained as an #architect, Ling Tan is an award-winning designer and artist working within the field of #socialengagement, technology, citizen participation and politics. She is co-founder of HAQUE TAN, a design studio combining the scale of architecture with the ingenuity of #art and the eccentricities of #technology, to make spaces more democratic, inclusive and culturally-driven. She works with diverse #communities across the UK and internationally to develop participatory projects of different scales, ranging from #interactiveinstallations, performances to pop-up architecture that help them make sense of their environments, express opinions in a #playful and performative way, and collectively address issues including #publicsafety, air quality, #climatechange and #gendersafety. At Great Ormond Street we are working on a long-term vision to transform a polluted and traffic dominated street into one with a high ecological value, creating a healing, biophilic environment which also enhances climate resilience. We are also working on short-term pilot projects such as the installation of a parklet so we can experience at a smaller scale the potential effect of a greener, healthier and more people friendly street. Our aim was for the parklet, fabricated by Yes Make, to be moveable so it could be relocated or borrowed by the community, and we recently had the opportunity to test this out. It has been moved to our new entrance on Guilford Street. It now forms part of the @GOSH Arts #WildImaginarium artwork by Usman Haque and Ling Tan of @HAQUE TAN co-designed with children and young people from the Hospital School, introducing the use of generative AI as a way for children to push the boundaries of their imagination. Never the same, #WildImaginarium’s plants, both physical and digital, respond to the seasons and weather over time. Ling Tan and Usman Haque, of emerging design studio HAQUE TAN, talk about the possibilites of AI and how they used it with children to co-create a new entrance for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
